theres a point were something can be saved and cant be saved
My grandma suffered with emthasema for 20yrs and had wet lungs since birth, she exspressed to my mother (her daughter) that if she is in a life or death situation she was not to be resusitated (she had a DNR added to her medical files). We were all very close to her as she lived in our home for the last 10 years of her life (even typing this is upsetting). It was winter 2000 and she took a sudden turn for the worst and passed out and collapsed. Mum called an ambulance and they came picked up grandma and took her to the hospital with my mum in the ambulance and the rest of the family getting gathered up and taken to the hospital. Well on the way to the hospital she flatlined and the ambos began resusitation and she probably would have lived, they had no knowledge of her DNR and mum could have keep her mouth shut. But she told them that she was DNR and they had to stop, It was the hardest thing she ever had to do.

So my grandma died when she could have been saved, but due to her quility of life my grandma opted to die, she explain to us kids (I was 13 and my brother were 17,10 and 7) that it wasn't because she wanted to leave us but because she was in constant pain.

Does this make my mother inhumane for saying not to resusitate her mother, or more humane for putting aside her feeling and doing what her mother wanted.

I couldn't agree more. I would have put it down too.

And Nova I'm sorry I know it was a long time ago but I know what you mean my great uncle passed in a similar way and it hurts but you just gotta hope that they are better off now. And thank you for posting that even though it was hard for you.

This is what you call a mercy killing ...I never ever want to see a single animal that i own ever suffer if it is evident that the quality of life will not be possible again... I will do anything it takes not to see them suffer.. and though it will break my heart.. it will make me feel better knowing they are at peace.. to me there is NO choice in this..
