In need of advice -car stuff-

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree wholeheartedly. A couple of years ago I had an Audi S3. I had read beforehand that it's "rival" in class was the Volkswagen Golf R. The golf was cheaper, and the guys from "Top Gear", the motoring show, had basically said that the golf was wayyyy better driving too. So why didn't I opt for the golf R!

Simple.....my own personal taste and preference.

We all have different tastes. I just love the shape and styling of the Audi hatchback, I always have. Don't get me wrong I'm not a fan of them all, I think the "Q" series are ugly as sin, and I have no love for the sedan models too.

For the record, I have never driven a BMW in all my life, nor a Mercedes. Both these models have always been competitors of Audi. For all I know both of them might be way better that the Audi, but I don't really care.

If I got rid of my Ford Ranger tomorrow, and opted for another car, there is a strong likelihood that I would end up with another Audi hatchback.
Thank you!
The hatchbacks do have a unique look to them for sure, certainly coupling performance with a look, that until rally racing, it wasn’t associated to.

Im no fan of luxury SUVs or trucks myself, seems kind of inappropriate to me.

I would highly encourage you to drive a BMW, one with AWD for comparable handling. When I was running the airport rental agency I had a fleet of 3500 cars at my disposal and the BMW 3 and 5 series, as well as the Infiniti Q50 where the absolute best driving cars I’ve ever experienced. The Infiniti was like strapping into the cockpit of a fighter jet -and the BMWs seems to be intuitive.

a lot of ppl likes the Chrysler 300 but that thing is a sluggish turtle with steering like a shopping cart.

BTW the first stick I ever got to drive was an Austin-Heely 3000 w/2 over drives,

The thing that makes me laugh about high end sporty cars with their silly 0-60 figures and ridiculous bhp numbers is the fact that you will rarely, if ever, get to experience the fantastic motoring capabilities which they offer! Modern day roads are cluttered, and go anywhere near a city and it's gridlock! Genuine opportunities to "open her up" are few and far between.

When you watch motoring shows such as "Top Gear", they drive around like lunatics and thrash the cars to within an inch of their lives, but on a runway or a race track which they have been given permission to use! Occasionally they'll have a section of twisty country road cordoned off for the show too. All these are great for showing off what these cars can do, but not readily available to the regular Joe on the street. Lol.

Good question
I have three old cars that ruin me financially as always need stuff doing but I do love my old TD5 Defender that I have just done the head gasket on. I would love to chuck a load of cash at that get a great respray, cool wheels and tyres new bumpers etc and a bigger hyrid turbo on it

Failing that I would love a Porsche GT3 996 and a 70's 911

I have never been “into” cars. It is too expensive of hobby for me. But I have always liked the old school Volkswagen bugs and vans. Probably not too expensive, but fun cars.

Whenever someone I know buys one I assume they didn’t test drive anything else- certainly not the comparable BMW.
What’s the appeal of paying a premium price for a Volkswagen w/some extra bells and whistles.
Hey now Porsches may be expensive but it’s about the experience LOL kidding

I share a rather similar sentiment, I was car shopping last December and test drove a MK7.5 Golf R. It was a quick car and it was nice on the inside for what it was, however when driving it just felt kind of dull. It felt like it didn’t really have any character. It was quick and it handled nicely but that was really it, just a faster ever so slightly nicer GTI. Thus I ended up picking a M240iX instead because it felt nicer and was more communicative when driving.

That’s an easy one for me, my dream car is an extended high top cargo van. Honestly it all goes back to my desire for complete independence as with one of these I can haul whatever I want either inside it or with a trailer and I can even live in it.

You should have thought about that before buying your house, lol. They both have their advantages though. You'll get more tanks in your house, but the van doesn't have one of those pesky chimney breasts!
