No need to mess wih perfection. Keep the water end watered, and the land end with substrate and you'll have no issues. I'd concentrate on proper husbandry more than complicating a simple, effective setup..........

I agree..I was a little excited whilst being a little baked as well and got carried away. I'm going to keep it at this and perhaps develop the dry end with compatible plants for shade/cover/munching?

Do you guys have any recommendations on filtration..I've been looking into canisters and it seems like Rena XP3, Fluval FX5 and Eheim 2028 are top picks..any recommendations from experience or otherwise? Looking for a long-term investment rather than a cheap solution.

thanks for the suggestions, I'm gonna stop by a few places tomorrow for aquatic plants

I got the heater I'm using now from petco http://www.petco.com/product/109528...eCat=AquaticTurtleHPTemperatureControlHeating

the temp outside dropped today and so this heater became absolutely inadequate and i threw in a second aquarium heater I had and the temp is slowly climbing back up..hope I didnt give these guys too much of a shock. got back today to find the temp at 69.2F..:WHOA:

BTW am I right that the temp should be around 75F+ for RES? What's the rec. threshold for water temp?

You mean the heater didn't work or not strong enough? I had planned to order 2 but don't know anyone other than you who has it thats why asking you about it.

The turtle safe protection plastic is what I like about it.

70 degrees is childs play for any native........They can take water temps down to almost freezing with no ill effects......Thats how they were designed.......It's that time of year and they know that.......

From what i have seen they don't come in very large sizes...which may be an issue...100w max?

Marineland stealth heaters are tough, i have never had and issue and my turt knocks its around. You can always cut a pvc pipe in half and drill holes in it to use as a cover. I've seen that on this site for big fish.

I use the marineland c-220 on my 135gal w/o a problem and it does a good job at cleaning my turtles mess.

That's the only type of heater I use for my turtles and large fish. I've had pretty good luck with them.

Yes thats the problem but afraid of turtle burns on exposed heater and didnt feel like encasing the heater in pvc with holes .

Though might go that way thanks

Do you use protection so turts dont burn themselves on heater ?
