help a fellow MFK out with an I.D B4 i get this fish

many thanks on the other thread, some said jag some think snook, i have some more pics now so are they any better 4 the I.D'ing of this lass?

I am convinced that it is a snook. In the pics, it looks like it is flairing its gills, which is probably throwing other viewers off. Nice fish, not a hybrid.

definantly not a red bay snook. The spotted pattern and body shape is that of a Jag

Ok, you all gonna hate me for this but I no longer think its a regular bay snook...

Looking at your fish sieways, it has a massive head with short yet powerfull jaws (just like a jag). Its eyes are positioned more forward, and its dorsal is shaped just like jags (snooks have theirs like p-bass -- with a typical dip in the middle, almost as if its being devided into two). Plus, bay snooks have dorsal and anal fins with no prominent tips -- both are rounded regardless of the gender. Also, while the markings are VERY similar to those of a snook, this female has more markings than a dominant snook male. Quite unusual, unless its an exceptional specimen.

I now tend to believe that it is either a slightly deforemed snook or a cross between snook and a jag. Regardless, its a beautiful specimen, and if given that the price permits, I would have snatched it right away

One more thing... Those of you who know bay snooks, look closely at the lips of this fish. Clearly, even though they are retracted, these jaws are not protrussive. At least not nearly as protrussive as those of a snook! Again, I draw a conclusion that this is not a pure petenia splendida
