pretty cool.... can't seem to get the juvenile settings working and what not.

Here is my stock in my 55gallon

5 x Iridescent Sharks
2 x Pictus Catfish
1 x African Brown Knife
1 x Common Pleco
1 x Freshwater Clam
3 x Pond Snails (not sure what kind.... just bought 3 out of a store

Warning: Iridescent Shark is not recommended for your tank - it may eventually outgrow your tank space, potentially reaching up to 36 inches.
Warning: Pictus Catfish will become too big to co-exist with Pond Snail.
Note: Common Pleco needs driftwood.
Warning: Common Pleco is not recommended for your tank - it may eventually outgrow your tank space, potentially reaching up to 18 inches.
Warning: Common Pleco will become too big to co-exist with Pond Snail.

Recommended temperature range: 22 - 26 C.
Recommended pH range: 7 - 7.5.
Recommended hardness range: 10 - 15 dH.

Your tank is too small - it will require massive amount of frequent water changes per week!

Your aquarium stocking level is 542%.
Your tank is seriously overstocked. Unless this setup is temporary, you should consider a larger tank.

It says my tank is overstocked by 542%, however, 3 of my ID Sharks are juvies, and my 2 Pictus are also Juvies.

What I do is when my fish get too large I give them to friends that have larger tanks, or put them up on Craigslist to rehome. 3 of my ID Sharks were rehomed a few weeks ago, as well as 2 Columbian Catfish I had. I decided to try the Pictus Catfish this go around and purchased 2, along with 3 new ID Sharks. I love the Columbians but with the Pictus I might actually be able to keep them because they won't grow out the tank. If they do well in the tank for a few weeks I'll probably add a few more.

I have the African Brown Knife on CL right now, he's about 7-8" now. My 2 Adult IDs are about 5 and 6 inches. The Pleco is about 4-5 inches. Once my ABK gets rehomed, I am going to try a pair of Apistogramma Cacatuoides Cichlids aka Cockatoo Apisto.

Debating on getting a juvenile to small Black Ghost Knife. I know they can get quite aggressive. It doesn't say on AqAdvisor that when I add a BGK to the list it should have any other problems than tank size, which I would either upgrade a tank, or rehome him in the future. Do you all think adding the Apistos in the tank is a bad idea? Mixing a BGK with them all? I'm more worried about the BGK attacking my juvie IDs, although I have minimal problems with the ABK. He does do some fin nipping but has trouble catching them.

Any suggestions?

This is what it says for my tank is I were to get rid of the African Brown Knife and add a Black Ghost Knife and 2 Cockatoo Apistos.

5 x Iridescent Sharks (2 are 5-6")
2 x Cockatoo Apisto
2 x Pictus Catfish
1 x Black Ghost Knife
1 x Common Pleco (4-5 inches)
3 x Pond Snails

Note: Black Ghost Knife Fish only eats live or frozen foods, no flakes. Need a well planted tank with lots of hiding places.

Interesting. My aquarium is heavily planted with many different kinds including moss and floating. I'm guilty of not having too many rock setups for hiding, which I plan to put on for my Apistos and potential BGK. My ABK sits in the floating plants.

I check my water parameters often. My only problem is the incredibly hard tap water that is available here in my part of Maryland. Other than that I rarely have any other problems. I guess the plants are doing their jobs.

Anyone know where I can get some nice driftwood for cheap? Petco wants like $13 a stick. Isn't too much nice stuff in any of the lakes nearby, also I'm not too sure how you would sterilize it for a tank. With rocks I just wash them with Clorox in my dishwasher.

Any suggestions on the aggression I could be setting myself up on?

Any chance a couple of Cherry Shrimp would survive in my tanks?

Thanks

In what way did it not work for you? Try clicking on "Using Juvenile size" and start entering your species including sizes... Then you can also try switching to adult mode to see your future bioload.

Yea, it wouldn't change earlier when I clicked it. I updated my Mozilla browser and added the recommended plug ins. It works now.

Now this is what I get.

5 ID Sharks, 2 Pictus Cats, 1 ABK, 1 Pleco, 3 Snails... not sure which kind so I just used Pond. I have a freshwater clam but there is no option to put them down.

Your aquarium filtration capacity is satisfactory.

Your aquarium filtration capacity for above selected species is 105%.
Recommended water change schedule: 28% per week.
Your aquarium stocking level is 76%.

This would be my potential tank.

5 ID Sharks, 2 Pictus Cats, 1 Black Ghost Knife, 1 Common Pleco, 3 Snails, and a Freshwater Clam

Not too bad. Maybe I should invest in another filter. I have so many plants that everything seems to work pretty well.

My 2 larger ID Sharks will need a new home within a few months probably.

Odd that it won't work for older Mozilla... Hmmm...

Yes, eventually I am going to add support for plants but right now I am still struggling on the GUI aspect of it. Not sure what is the best way to let user specify how much plants they have. "Lightly planted" vs "Medium" vs "Heavy" - I don't think this is enough....

It probably wasn't your site at all. I rebooted my computer as well. Updating Mozilla was due anyways. I hadn't rebooted this thing for a few days and it might have just been an issue with that.

So if I get a Black Ghost Knife next week... it should be fine with my African Brown and Cockatoo Apistos.... I picked them up today since the snowstorm may inhibit me from getting them until next Wednesday.

Obviously I'll keep an eye on them. The ABK seems to not bother the Apistos at all so far, bu it's only been a few hours. They actually already made a little home underneath my driftwood with the pleco, as opposed to the little cave structures I built around the tanks which have more plants around them than the driftwood. I left the driftwood exposed because its a really nice piece.

yhbae1,
Is it possible that you can fix the search engine so we don't have to write things in order. Ex. If I search apistogramma cacatuoides, then it comes up fine, but if I type cacatuoides apistogramma, it does not recognize it.

Thanks man, and I appreciate everything you're doing. Honestly, I support the time and effort you are putting into this, and would completely support a donation section. Take some profit, and do something supportive with the site using our donations. If that makes sense.

The search function in AqAdvisor works at substring level. In your case, you can just specify cacatuoides and it will look for this string in both common and scientific names and list all entries for you. You can even go with "catu". It's actually pretty useful. :D
