Mines is always active with lights off, lights on it'll come out for food or at dawn I think makes its rounds. As far as it being with cichlids. I had it with a juvenile jag cichlids up to 6-7". The cat pushed the cichlids around. I had to put a gen inch sun cat with it once, the jag attacked the sun cat over its dw piece. I noticed my trachy and jag only tolerate each other, everything else is a green light over food or dw, they don't seem to care about size either, smaller or bigger, they'll fight over their hide.

Cool looking jag catfish!!.. Vulture catfish what can you tell me about them??
Not much. Ive only had one. Its peaceful and active. They need room 150 is too small.

thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter will he able to tell you more.

Seems like your aiming for a community and its great that your doing proper research and asking questions...only thing i can guarantee is something will go wrong wether its with a cat or cichlid or what ever. We're taking animals and putting them in a glass box, they dont always follow the plan lol. If it were me id rehome all but one cichlid and get a group of jags. 5 or 6 they seem to do better in groups

What size tank ?

I really cant say much as mine isnt an adult. Hes about 13 or 14 inches. His temperament can stay the same or change once he reaches adult hood. From my experience with mine hes a peaceful fish doesnt bother anyone and uses every inch of my tank to cruise around.

150gallon for now but up grade to 240gallon in the spring. Okay with some of my cichlids??
Depending on the dimensions it will still be too small. My tank is 96×30 and im not sure it will be big enough for him. Im uploading a vid now. I'll tag you to the thread. Take a look at his snout. He rubbed it raw i guess you can say from swimming back amd forth and up against the glass. This is just my opinion other may disagree so definitely dont take my word as gospel.

The jaguar catfish of Jaws' for all I know are a rare exception. They dislike light maniacally in general and hide all day long.

As far as jag catfish and your cichlids, I think I agree with Jaws too - it's a gamble and probably worth testing whether they will cohab drama-free. But one must be prepared to separate in case things go south - either a divider or another tank.

Vulture catfish is too big for your tank IMO. It will reach 2' sooner or later. For a couple of years, it could be ok in 240 gal but it needs space to swim. If it will sit in one spot, it means it is not happy about not having enough room.

Vulture would be a safer bet with the cichlids because the jags are affordable and available only when small and grow way, way too slowly. A large cichlid can easily hurt a small catfish if it takes a disliking to it.

Good advice!... So if your in my shoes between vulture or jag catfish- you would consider Vulture??..
If the cichlids are already big yes I suppose but as TBTB mentioned it will outgrow the tank, why not look for bolt catfish?
