Keeping Gar in a Pond?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I found out yesterday that the three little sunfish that I put in my pond last year survived and spawned this year; there are two groups of fry, one much larger than the other which allowed for the ID.

This is good news for my gar project; more food for the gars when I get them :D. I'm still working on getting the gar and am still fishing for them when I can.

If you are having trouble catching gar, you need to hook up with these guys. There's bound to be some locals who would be thrilled to help you:

Well that's crap. For all the bragging about how many members they have and how many states they cover, you'd think you'd get some GASS member in PA to respond. I'll see if I can stir up some response for you.

Wow, I just checked the forums over there, looks like the GASS forum has just about died. There are a ton of bowfishermen in PA that might help you out, though, and I know some of them are great guys. You might register on bow.fishingcountry.com and tell them you need some help catching a few gar for your pond. I bet one of the guys will take you out. If you can throw a 5 or 6 foot cast net, you should be able to get all you want (or all you can handle) in one night.

Cheers,
