Lets see what's in your stand! mechanical photo's

This thread is awesome! I love seeing all the different setups. Its giving me lots of ideas for when I do my plywood build, hopefully this spring/summer.

BTW. This should definitely be a sticky!

Lame BUMP but I just don't wanna see this one die.... Lets see em' peoples... This is a cute lil 55g in my garage I just set up (Fluval 304/HOT mag). Can you tell the tank I filled this one from is a little dark with tannins??? :naughty:

Will update with pics of the 220g and new 300g sump combo when I finish it. :D

Great idea on the racks! I'm defanitly getting some next time I'm at the hardware store. What exactly is holding the test tubes? they look like they are floating.

Call me crazy, I'm all for the diy-er, but wouldn't it have been a lot cheaper and easier to just buy a $50 hob filter, rather than all the plumbing, filter media, pump, 10g tank etc?

Part of the aquarium hobby for me is tinkering with the tank. Yes it would have been easier but not as much fun for me. I have 3 HOB’s in a box if you want them? HAHA they are just not fun for me.

I needed a bigger return pump for my 180gallon so the pump on this tank is the old one from that tank. Besides that I spent $20 in PVC, $10 for the sponges and baskets at the dollar store. The overflow box has collecting dust because I had my 180 drilled. The 10 gallon tank was sitting around at my parents house with a broken one (that’s where I got the glass for the divider)so really I spent like $30 for the filter.

Like I said building my own filter is half of the hobby for me. If you dont own a sump you built you wont understand but people who come over and see my tank are just as interested in my sump and how it works as they are my ray and arowana!

Why the check valve?

That is not a check valve it is just a union or a quick disconnect to take the drain into two pieces and I can remove the overflow box from the tank without moving the tank away from the wall yet everything is glued.

It also helped to orient everything. This way I can glue everything outside and not worry about the orientation of the threaded piece in the bottom of the bulkhead on the overflow box. I can tighten it all the way down and then line up the bottom half with the hole in the stand then tighten down the union and everything is tight dry and lined up.

Good idea! Makes cleaning the overflow box alot easier.
