Good idea! Makes cleaning the overflow box alot easier.

Bingo! And I have not been feeding flakes for like a year now ( my big fish are way past flakes! HAHA) and this box fills up with them even if I turn the pump off during feeding.

Is is my imagination or are a LOT of these sumps just two chambers? I was going to do a three-chamber setup with my 30g sump in the near future, but the two chamber looks so good! Are there any disadvantages to removing either the 'filter sock' capable chamber or the 'pump' chamber? Of the two, I'd probably be keeping the 'filter sock' chamber for better mech, but then what am I losing if my pump isn't in its own compartment?

Like I said building my own filter is half of the hobby for me. If you dont own a sump you built you wont understand but people who come over and see my tank are just as interested in my sump and how it works as they are my ray and arowana!

Haha, I completely understand.

The section that has the pump is the section where the water level flucuates due to evaporation or water changes (if the pump is running durring a water change.

looks much better Justin...and you are right, that UV is a monster...

Thanks Damien! I am hoping even with the faster flow of the FX5 it will be somewhat affective against parasites as well not just algae. No way for me to really tell though.
