Lets see what's in your stand! mechanical photo's

I originally had a 55g sump and an fx5. I then changed to 2 fx5's. I love them. 1 fx5 is plumbed through the dual overflows. The other fx5 is plumbed through a hole I cut in the acrylic and the outflow goes to the loc-line.

Darren your tanks simple and classy, I like it  would you recommend the FX5 plumbed through the overflow to others? Pros cons? Noise of the overflows?? Like would you keep it in your bedroom??

I may be doing something similar with a smaller tank, appreciate you reply.

 love this thread. there is nothing like keeping monster fish, but monster filtration on the other hand... YIKES.

I would love to hear details on how you plumbed your fx5 to your overflow.

When I do that, the intake part of the fx5 sucks to quickly through the overflow so I get air in the line...then air in the fx5...and then air out of the returns.

Hey thanks for the replies guys. I was having the same problem as you special Ed, so I just have both overflows connected to one line that goes directly into the fx5. I also try and make sure the water level is somewhat high in the tank so more water gets into the actual overflow.

I wouldnt be happier with the 2 fx5's. I really disliked the sump becuase it smelled awful and was loud. The fx5's are almost completly silent. The only real noise in the room comes from the retarted HOB filter that my wife has on her 10g goldfish tank underneath. If you are still having issues special Ed just restrict the flow a little that goes into the fx5. I know this is not optimal, but it will work.

The other fx5 I have plumbed through a hole that I cut in the acrylic. I did this so I could have the intake closer to the bottom of the aquarium in order to collect waste. I would really recommend this.

JK47, I would keep this aquarium the way it is plumbed in a bedroom in a heartbeat. The only reason I didnt put it in the bedroom was becuase it would have made waterchanges a nightmare. Right now I just siphon the water out my sliding glass door into the yard and then throw on the garden hose to refill it. To easy.

I was worried about drilling the tank becuase it reduces resale value and voids the tenecor warranty or whatever, but I just decided that this was the tank I always wanted and Im going to keep it for a very long time. and thanks to some really great information from this site I felt confident in not cracking it.
