Some Angels are like dogs, while others are like wolves...IMO

They are a generally peaceful fish all around i'd say, though.

have you ever owned uaru or angels? :screwy:

Keyhole is the only peaceful fish I've owned. I've seen my multispinosas go lip to lip with geophagus also. I missed the good shot but this was them going at it..

I wouldn't consider nics peaceful either, mine used to fight all the time.
Oh yes I have have owned multiple Angels , I currently keep Uarus , Sevs , and Aequidens Metae. The Uarus are tranquil , and the ones my friends have owned over the years have been as well. Angels can be a bit tricky at times if you have two of the same sex (particularly two males) ,but in general are very calm and peacefull and nonaggressive so long as tankmates aren't bite sized. If they are, then you get to witness their excellent hunting abilities:). As with all cichlids ,individual temperments can vary . I did have one once that could go toe to toe with a pitbull and win but that was one out of many. He was entertaining(he used to case my old Oscar around relentlessly) but had to be kept seperate.
To make a further point on Uarus, I kept a school of serpae tetras with them and the rest in my current set up. They never paid them any mind . The Sevs killed them off once they decided to start spawning regularly :(.

my uaru were fine. they ruled the tank after my GT was gone but were peaceful much like my GT, guess the GT taught them well.
no doubt you get aggressive uaru though. i had a demonic rainbow cichlid (multispinosa), a demon blue acara and the devil incarnate gold severum. yet all of these are supposed to be peaceful. I had a big bad green TERROR (yes terror) that, @ 6", took two 1" uaru under his wing and protected them. yet GT's are supposed to be aggro. I had a Parachromis loisellei that was a wuss, yes the infamously evil and properly tooled up parachromis genus, and my first FM beat him down.
even rams and kribs can dish out the hate, they just dont have the size or power to match the attitude.

so like is mentioned constantly through this thread, and other "whats the most aggro, peaceful etc" threads, it depends on the individuals temperament. no 2 cichlids are alike and no one in the fishkeeping game can tell you with 100% certainty what a specific cichlid will behave like. all that everyone can tell you is their personal experience no more and no less.

Uarus are not peaceful fish at all, you got lucky with yours.
I'd say it's more like you were unlucky with yours. The experience of everyone I've known who has kept them and my own as well is that they are generally peacefull. They are cichlids and individual temperments are always different. try Them again and you'll likely have different results :).

Just to make a point , many people have suggested Rams as peacefull and I've seen a single Bolivian own a 55g by his/herself. And it was my tank with communtity fish(tetras cories ect), but I'm not going to suggest otherwise because I've had one with a napoleon complex.

Uaru are very peaceful fish !!!

i have kept 8-10" uaru with bleeding heart tetras and had no problems. the only time i have seen agro from a uaru is when they are breeding.

My firemouth has never gone after anything except my siphon...

He now likes to puff out at me, though. Thinks he's tough. Doesn't start anything, but wants to let me know whats up.

alright...im gonna say this and im sure im gonna get a ton of ****..but i have 2 red devils in the same tank, jack dempsey, and 2 oscars...and i swear to you they havent fought one time and theres just something about he chemistry in the tank that makes them perfect? in my opinion tho..i think oscars, contrary to popular belief, if raised properly, are one the "least agressive" cichlids, if there even is such a thing. the only thing my oscars have ever been pissed at it my hand...

I agree that Uaru are generally peaceful, except when others try to eat their veggies.:) I'm getting a Psittacus on Tuesday or Wednesday....aren't they considered pretty peaceful?

I cant say they would be a good candidate for a typical community(with tetras and such) set up because of their mature size(big fish will inevitably eat little fish) but they aren't particularly aggressive from what I know about them. With fish of similar temperments though they should be fine though. They are beautifull fish and one of these days I hope to have one or more. (#3 on my wish list of cichlids to own before I die)
