He eats Hikari Jumbo Carnisticks as a staple and Hikari freeze-dried krill and salmon or tilapia fillets as treats.

At first when I saw "MaddMaxx" pop up on my subscriptions I thought someone was playing a joke! LOL! Happy little coincidence this. :)

Thats sweet i like the close up pictures of the teeth haha. Hows the build going on that 500 gallon?
Actually, that is what I wanted to address in tonight's update. As it turns out, since my sister picked up her fish and Max is alone in the tank with just a catfish, he's really skittish. He smashed into the tank a few times today and is looking kinda rough.

My solution for this is to get him a large, calm dither fish (stay tuned) and to finally do some honest work with the lumber I've been collecting for months. I spent a couple of hours working on the tank tonight and got the walls up and most of the framing done. The only reason I stopped is because I ran out of screws. I have a full five pounds of two inch wood screws in this thing already and I fully expect to use another ten pounds or so of screws.

Go here for the tank thread.

Here's a shot of the tank. It's actually a bit farther along than this pic shows now.

Wow, build looks good chicx. Iv drawn up blue prints a couple times for a similar build, something like a 300gal. If you dont mind, can you let me know how much $ you spent in total on the finished product? Pm me if you want. Just looking for a ball park number.

$251 so far. I'm not gonna keep anything about this a secret, if I mess something up I'll share that too. How else will the community learn? :) All told, I expect it to come in less than $1000 to have it water tight. I'll still need to make a stand, hood and finish it (hardwood panel and walnut stain, molding, etc) and all that crap will cost more. But I fully expect it'll be fish-able for about $1000, $1500 fully finished.

Well Max has been acting a bit off the past few days. He's been extremely jumpy, he's spent a lot of time swimming into the glass and he won't eat. I can't figure out what is causing his behavior. I've added dithers back to the tank in the form of Drogo and a pair of silver dollars and my water is perfect. I first figured he was flighty because I sold everyone else from the tank but that didn't fix it. I then figured that maybe when I was gone for two weeks the water went to hell, but according to my API Freshwater Master Test Kit, I'm 7.8-0-0-10. The ten in nitrate is explained by a big pothos colony living in a HOB.

The only other thing I figure might be causing his odd behavior is that he's getting ready to cut fresh teeth, as this is a normal behavior pattern before he cuts teeth. The issue I have with this is that he normally cuts teeth every 2-3 months and its only been a month since hes cut teeth last. The behavior pattern fits, except he's been doing it for a week now and normal tooth cutting behavior only lasts 2-3 days.

On the good side however, his dark colors seem to be continuing to develop. The rays in his fins are now clearly black and his dark coloration is hanging on. Looks like sashimimaster might be on to something when he said his GATF looked different. His fish has black rays, too and is morphologically very similar to mine. Could "black" goliaths have been hiding under our noses all this time? Is there something we're missing from our water that causes the color not to develop?

Fascinating.

Anyhoo, here's a pic of Max from tonight uploaded straight off of the memory card. I didn't even resize it. Note the black fins and how rough his chin looks from his recent odd behavior.
