be careful moving him I know a few people who when they moved them when they were established in a tank and it died when trying to move too another tank. It happened to me it was four inches long when I bought It for $100 dollars and it was 16 inches when I decided to move it because he ate my 4 inch larchardi arowana witch was 4 inches long. That was $100 dollar snack, never feed live so thought it would be O.K. its a 425 that I use for a grow tank and keep my more mellow fish. Good luck Noel

Max one week later. The fin is definitely coming back well, but it seems as though it's not growing back straight. I wonder if the original kink was the result of a fin amputation?

Also, I found these two old pictures of Max from last July or so that haven't been posted before!

Looks much better already! Awesome ... just thinking of how tricky the little procedure you did was, as far as keeping those teeth from getting stuck in your finger since I'm sure he did an awful lot of thrashing around, not to mention how difficult it is to catch those buggers!

He did his best to take a chunk out of me! LOL

The scale loss on his caudal peduncle in the pic from right after I clipped him is from me holding him. He didn't thrash too bad once I had him because with ATF, if you roll them onto their back they go catatonic and can't fight nearly as well. It makes handling them a LOT easier.

If I waited a month, the fin would be healed up already! :p

It probably isn't necessary to cut the fin that far down at all. Actually, I strongly suspect that it would have grown back with no cutting. The reasons I cut it were two fold. First, he's a prize specimen and I wanted to give the fin the best chance to heal perfectly. Second, I figured it might be of help to the community to see if fin clipping works on ATF. Logically, there's no reason why it shouldn't work as ATF don't have bones in their fins; I just wanted to see if I could gather proof to support my hypothesis. :)

Below are some updated pics. Just four days since the last update and there is dramatic new growth. His hooks are also coming back fairly well.

15 days after cutting:

Interesting about holding them on their back, didnt know that ... but I figure it wouldnt be suitable to grab him by the lower lip like a bass! Lol, cool bit of info, thanks Chicx
