I think in a what dat tiger is saying in nut shell is that the fish should have never been shipped the way that it was. It could set a precedence that it's ok as long as no one complains. I hate to say it but I am inclined to think that the only reason it's being rectified is because of your moderator status.

Actually in a nutshell I'm trying to say is that we should not cover up a vendor when something goes bad. If the vendor is revealed then he would have a chance to chime in on this thread with his side of the story. I'm pretty sure that vendor is aware of this thread and if he doesn't fix the situation soon his identity would be revealed soon. I could understand why the buyer would not want to reveal the vendor because it's his money that is on the line here.

Fish get shipped way worse then that (you should know) all the time. Risks of buying baby rare fish that have to travel around the world to get to us and our eagerness to get the best deal on these animals cause vendors to not be able to take the time to fatten things up proper as it adds overhead and price.

Chix,

Sorry for your loss, and happy to hear they are making right. That being said, did you necropsy it? I agree it was mad skinny when you got him but he was eating, did you worm him... parasites kill way more fish then starvation when they are still eating.

This thread does belong to this guy after all, so I figured I'd give him some love. He's getting big, a foot long, thick, and eating like a hoss.

I'm interested to hear how you plan to add more ATF to a larger one. If you're successful in manipulating growth on some and limiting growth on another it would be a very interesting process. I've been thinking of replacing my three VATFs that I lost but I don't think I could grow out more fast enough to match the bigger ones.

While I feel that my plan is sound in theory, I am having a good bit of trouble actually implementing it. :lol2:

The trouble I'm running into is primarily a lack of fish. I have a fatf and I have a line on a batf, but I've not had any luck in finding any vatf or tatf that are for sale. Max doesn't bother fish that are significantly smaller than him, he lives with a 6-7" red tail black shark that he completely ignores. At one point driven by pure curiosity, I dropped the 5.5" fatf into the main tank just to see what would happen. Max ignored him. The main problems were my juruense who I have no doubt would have eaten it if given a chance and Drogo, my black aro, who was actively hunting the fatf but was far to slow to catch it.

I strongly suspect that once the tigers are large enough to survive Drogo's interest, they will be able to get along ok. After all, as you've been experiencing, it appears that gatf aren't normally the problem in mixed ATF communities. Several members, you and DayumDanny come to mind immediately, had trouble with vatf attacking tankmates.

If I can get passed this headache inducing step of getting all five specimens while Max is still borderline small enough to play nice with others, if I can't get all five soon, I feel this initiative will fail unless I sell Max (which won't happen).

I'll be sure to continue posting updates as they become relevant.

Actually, now that I only have a GATF and VATF left the GATF has become the aggressor. The VATF is about an inch or two smaller so the GATF is asserting his dominance of the tank. So I'm trying to hurry and grow some dithers as fast as possible. I have 3 Armatus' , tin foil barbs and red hooks that I'm powerfeeding to try and run interference. But I hope my last VATF can hold out for a few more months.

I'd just put some of those dither fish in now. I 'd rather lose a couple of them then a Vatf. You can dithers pretty easily and for cheap. Just my opinion
