I agree completely. I'm PISSED.Sucks! I think this fish should of never been sold. I kinda feel they knew this fish was in this bad condition when they sold it to you.
You'll like this picture then:After seeing your ATF collection, I want one
What a bummer about the brevis though
That's five of my seven ATF with pictures that were taken at about the same size. Unfortunately, I didn't have them all at the same time.
They are-
tatf
vatf
fatf*
batf
gatf
*- I'm actually beginning to think that this guy is a brevis as well as he gets bigger. I bought it under the assumption that it was fatf and never really looked into it to verify. I just rolled with my original assumption without ever fact checking myself (I know, I know ). As it grows however, I'm beginning to think it may be a brevis, just a very skinny one (I'm sensing a pattern here). It is however unusually colorful for a brevis, so we'll see.
I have access to myriad data on this subject, but the practical application of those data on very young specimens is non existent in the literature. Diagnosing the species for large specimens is academic and downright easy, anything less than a foot long can be a nightmare. We have a good grasp of things in the community for the southern hemisphere species, but for the sahelian species (fatf & batf), proper diagnosis of the babies remains elusive. I'm currently working feverishly to get my hands on some more little ones to try to figure it out.
If my little sahelian that is still alive proves to be fatf as it grows, then I'll consider the issue academic and resolved. If the little sahelian tiger proves to be batf, then I have more work to do.
All of this crap that I've been writing for the past year that you've all been following will ultimately be going into a research paper that I'm going to attempt to get published. I've had some interest from several editors when I proposed the idea, but we'll see what happens. I'm considering two articles, a proper academic paper and a layman's terms paper for TFH.
We'll see what happens though. I'm at least a year away from publication at this point. I'm still hungrily gobbling up data.
Boy did I ever get away from what I was talking about.
