Fish Heaven
tanzaniae.JPGso even though if there are no recent publications classifying the species or updating, it doesn't mean that we're not seeing or getting new fish. So I've found and confirmed again, my suspicion on the "tanzaniae" which is what I called big eye tiger about 4 years ago. Ready for a picture of a big one in captivity? You'll never find a "nigerian" tiger, which I call forskalli, or you can call brevis if you want, larger than 15" in captivity. This tanzinae is over 30" already

Tanzaniae vs goldfish. The only part of this that pisses me off is that he killed it but didn't eat it. :/

He's growing fairly well. I'd say since I brought him home he's grown by a half to three quarters of an inch. He's right at three and a half inches now. He loves to swim in the current and has a voracious appetite. With how vigorously he strikes at anything guppy shaped, I'm actually going to try to give him his first Trout Chunks™ soon. As you can see from the pics, he's putting on bulk, too. If he keeps growing at this rate, I'm hoping to have him in the main tank by the new year! :)

He was doing poorly adapting to tank life for a while and you can see in the pics that he has a sore on his nose, jaw and eyes. These were a lot worse a couple weeks ago but now that he's calming down, they're starting to heal. You can't tell in the pics, but he's starting to develop hooks on his tail ever so slightly lol

As with the last thread, the wife is still in Florida with her big Nikon, so I'm stuck taking cell phone pics of this guy again. Colors came out fairly true to life though so you can see how he looks fairly well. Pretty little fish methinks, unique in the ATF world!

yeah, i hate when the poor guys bang up their face, in my experience though, ATF's are like tanks and are very resiliant ... i think they must smash into stuff in the wild too, cause they recover way too well for them not to have thousands of years of practice at it
