This fish looks ten times better each time I see it. I don't think I've seen one of these before so I guess it's rare or even unique. If I had this I wouldn't want anything else. Are you going to be able to keep it long term or will it get too big?
Thanks for the compliments on him.
I love the predatory look of Jacks. Big beady eyes, large mouth full of needle like teeth, sleek body with a large tail that is just built for power and acceleration. Such an awesome fish I reckon.

Yes I am happy having him as a solo fish and yes I will be able to keep him long term. I have put down a deposit for a 8x4x32” tank along with sump, stand etc etc. A long wait time but should be getting built in November/December hopefully.

That should do him for many years, and I will upgrade if needed once he outgrows that in 7 to 10 years or so I guess haha.

I should add that they are not vary rare in Australia and the pacific islands areas.
I am from just north of Sydney NSW, so our water down here is too cold for them, but up northern Aus they are plentiful in rivers and creeks, and out into off-shore reefs too.

He is a great looking fish. I think you named him Terrible Terrance or something similar. I think its great that you are thinking about him long term and I hope it goes well for you. I started with Clown Loaches and luckily still have them. They will be 30 years old in January. They just get more and more valuable to me every year. I may end my time in the hobby with these fish too. I never expected this when I started as the best advice available said ten years. My friendly LFS jokingly say most of their customers buy new fish every few weeks and if everybody was like me they would go out of business. Do you know how long the Mangrove Jack can live for?

30 years is a long time with the same fish! That’s awesome.

As far as Mangrove Jack age. In the wild some can live for like 25-35 years supposedly.
I doubt that this will happen in captivity but hopefully I am mistaken.

I just try and care for the fish to the best of my ability and funds available, and hopefully that gives Terry a long and happy life.

If he lives to be 30 he will be massive but haha!
