Marbled Convict Breeding Project!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Okay! Everyone is settled down and snacking on dinner right now! I really wish I waited a little longer for your response Aquatic, but I transferred half of the parents water to the new one with 65% new water with the same temperature and everyone made it and it swimming happily! During the transfer I got bit by the male at least five times... and he hanged on EVERY TIME  I put a divider in the parent's tank and they don't like it... nothing but biting the divider where the other is and trying to get to each other. Since I'm going to keep a Marbled female from the batch to breed back with the male I might just get rid of her soon so he can have the whole tank to himself for a while. But that pretty much sums everything up! Let the questions begin :D

Here's the new fry tank:

Before you get rid of the female you should wait and see how the fry turn out. It doesnt really matter how you move the fry as long as you do it and they survive. ;)
Kind of feel sorry for the pair seperated lol. Its cool that he attacked you so viciously, my opinion of male cons is the more aggressive the better! Docile males are lame and dont deserve to be bred:ROFL:

I was thinking of letting them together but if they breed remove the eggs (destroy) but I'm worried he'll beat her up if they disappear.

You could keep a couple of the striped ones in. Just watch them closely and seperate if they become aggressive towards each other. Its going to be a stressful situation for them no matter what, but removing the fry must be done for the benefit of the pair and the fry,

OH! How about moving just the female into the 30G with the fry until the fry become aggressive? That way they don't see each other and they both get a lot of room.

I would try letting the pair be together and removing eggs like you suggested. That way nothing happens to the fry if the female freaks from the move. He shouldnt get her too bad they have a pretty good bond apparently.

Ok sounds good, I'll remove the caves in the tank so if they do lay eggs I'll see them for sure.

Wow, I've never seen so much flaring from the male before! He's flaring around her and all the sudden his fins are blue?

Alright then Aquatic time for a photo shoot ;) Sorry about the poor quality videos/pictures my poor camera tried hard!

Here's a video of the fry.
