Great dovii in this thread! The one from Australia looks particularly huge.

I wish we could get some more evidence of some really large fish though. Mel O'meara's fish (the one that Modest Man posted) is certainly a beast, but other than that one, I really have trouble believing any of these other home aquaria fish really approach anything like 20". The one that was owned by CichlidManiac is a beauty, but clearly not 20", and he's almost certainly bigger than just about all of the other home raised fish.

I am glad to hear that, we had a thread here a while back and people were claiming the real big dovis were quite common.

I've seen a lot of people claim to have them around 20" and while most are really impressive I can only recall seeing maybe 2 or 3 with a tape measure next to them to prove it. I'm sure there are more then we know of but I'm also sure it's not a common occurrence. It would require more care and maintenance then the average hobbyist would be willing to provide.

if i was to build a rather large pond in my GA backyard, would you think dovvi could survive? I would like to:
A. Feed them different things
B. When large enough, fish for them
C. Brag about my fish to friends

Yes, I saw that -- gorgeous fish! I think they measured him at 19".

BUT he was caught from the wild (hook and line in Costa Rica I think). I've got a million pics of truly frighteningly large dovii (much larger than the one above), but they're all from fishing sites, NOT home aquariums.

Fishkeeper1, I have a backyard setup right now in VA. Works great!

The Hundoran is almost like a short body Dovii so I would imagine the Nic's would get larger.

Didn't know that.. do you know the size?

This thread has some pics of a Honduran, like I said, to me they look like a short body Dovii. They have a flatter pointier nose.

BTW Here is another pic. of the same exhibit fishluvr is talking about, two males standoff. Notice two other adult RDs in the pic. to give you an idea about size.

Anyone care to guess their size, from this picture?

where is this tank, and are there any other pics
