How would this work with a UV sterilizer? I see two outcomes. One, all the algae is killed and nothing ever grows on the screen or two, the algae on the screen grows on the screen and it doesn't matter what is in the water.

The algae will grow on the screen, but the live pods that it produces will be killed when they go through the UV. You really don't need a UV, unless it's for ICK.
I thought Ich grew in pods on the fish then fell and bred in the gravel... will a UV actually help with it?
I think if you're taking care of the DOCs, phosphates and nitrates, your water should stay clear without a UV

UV will kill them as they travel from the fish to gravel, and back. You need a strong UV, though. I have a 57W UV, and I use it when I put a new fish in to keep ick from breaking out. For everything else, the scrubber takes care of it.
We'll see what up in a week...I didn't have much Algae to seed with, I'll have to go see the owner at the LFS and see if I can get some scrapings from him...
Looks good! Will it be setting outside like that? Dont' worry too much about seeding... should start up in a few days anyway. This is for the 650 pond?
