Metal monster 3k

That things bigger than some of the rooms in my house!! (joys of living in the uk where all the houses are tiny, unless your loaded). This is one epic build, good job !!!

thanks again for all the compliments everyone!

Need some advice on the spans between the upright supports. The gaps range between 8.25" and 9.75", so the 9.75" is the largest open gap to be supported by plywood alone. Does everyone think this is ok at a 48" height? I have enough scrap to run some horizontal braces 2' on center across the entire back and side walls if anyone thinks it would help or is necessary. My last build used 7.25" spacing between all outer braces but im pretty sure most wood builds use 16" like when building walls so i should be ok. I anticipate the bowing of my 1" glass as well as the wood and outer steel braces, just dont want the wood to crack all the way through lol....

I think you should be fine with that spacing. It does make it a little more scary with the height but either way should be fine. What thickness ply will you be using? That could make a difference as well. If you overly worried you could always double up the plywood.

I would say that if you can add more and have it why not but should hold that span.

I'm thinkin 3/4" or 2 layers of .5". If i can find 3/4" for cheap i may just do 2 layers like u suggested for peace of mind. I only need 6 sheets for a layer so its no too crazy.

Agreed, well said....My engineer friend said i could put down 3/4" plwood as is and drive my truck over it to test and it would b fine lol...But i think it will drive me crazy if i dont cut the span half way up leaving me with 9.75"x24" open sections. I'll see what i can come up with in scraps. My 650 bows out a good .25" on the sides at only a 30" height. It also uses .5" polyproplene so this may be why. Im positive the polyproplene is alot more flexible than 3/4" plywood.

That's insane bro. That thing makes my 180 gal upgrade I'm planning look like a beta bowl. What is the stock going to consist of?

Initial stock is 7 24-30" pack of TSN, one 30" marblextsn hybrid, one 15" female florid softshell turtle (poor mans frt lol) and one oscar. Im debating if i wanna throw in my 3 22-24" gators and trop gar. Also debating a pack of 5 24-28" aros. Prob just the cats and turtle for a while. The aros have their own 650gal and the gar their own 450gal so we will see. My cats like to eat 12-18" fish so im worried they will def. Eat the aros and smaller gators if they got chance. I would love to just keep the aros and gar in the new tank but im not gonna throw my pack of TSN under the bus theyve been in a 1700 pool for the last year. Theoritaclly anything large enough 30" range fish should b fine but i know this tank is not really "big enough" for them all....merely another stepping stone lol...sickening i know, but true. I should have went 10'x16' for some extra space :)

I remember my first 210 i got in college....thought f*** yeah! To myself this is huuuuge! Soon as i got it in my apartment i started looking for something bigger lol that was 6 years ago so alot can happen with patience and time. I now have my own home with 26 tanks currently running about 4,000 plus gallons without this build.
