Great information nec. You mentioned catfish getting big quick, I have an albino channel cat that I got early last fall from the lfs at 2.5-3". Had him in a 55 gallon with a 6" pictus, 6" eclipse cat, and 8" pleco. He grew to about 6" by May. I decided to put him outside in my 2000 gallon koi pond to see how he would grow outdoors. WOW. By August he was at about 22". I could not believe how quickly "HE" grew. Yes, they will eat anything that fits in thier mouth. Yes, I am missing some of the 6" common goldfish I had. I also got to witness something interesting. Normally when I would go out after work to feed the fish the ACC would be tucked under the drift wood I have set in the pond. One time I came out and found him laying in the shallow water facing the skimmer entrance. My first thought was that he might be sick. Thats when I opened the skimmer lid to find that what he was doing was waiting for the bullfrog in the skimmer to come back out. When he gets too big for my koi pond, I plan on putting him in the private 1/2 acre pond my in-laws have on their property. NO FISHING ALLOWED! I just couldn't see putting all that effort into raising him and then turning him loose in a public or even neighborhood pond.

Has anyone had to get rid of a monster catfish? Who did you give it to?

Tnx guys. Anyone can share info in this sticky. I do appologize for not being on here as much as I would like. Working Nuclear Security in the Air Force makes life a little hectic. I'll be out of the military in 10 months and will be trying to persue my passion of catfish more intensly. I have so many projects going right now. I am trying to build my large tank, along with a descent growout, and starter tank for my cats so that I can kick my hobby into overdrive. I have a lot of work to do, but will still be on here occassionally. I will continue to share pics and info I find on large catfish, but it will be a while before I can do the research I was doing before. I made higher rank in the military and increased responsibilities has kept me from doing the things I love.

The Red tailed catfish is an official MONSTER this morning it was on Monster-Quest (History Chanel). Mothers telling stories of the kids being eaten and fishermen bumped out of boats by hungry Reds. If that dose not push the red tail in to the top of the monster rankings i don't know what will.

P.S.
Mine eats Chicken wings.:headbang2

Finally, so you want that cute lil rtc? Here tons of different stories on how big they can get? Here's a true giant that looks well over the current world record. Too bad Larry dahlberg never goes for records. He just in it for the catch and quick release so he can catch another!

If you want to see some more crazy huge rtcs go to youtube.com and type pirarara into the search engine! Enjoy folks!
