So I have good news and bad news. The bad news is, my 220 gallon tank exploded last week.

Sorry to hear that mate, you seem a lot more sane about it than most would. How old was your tank? Most of the manufactures insist that if anything will happen like this it does so soon, 1st few days it's set up.

Any pic.'s of the new set up yet? :) :) :)

Ouch. Lucky thing you were at home!
On another note, you might want to consider taking the power extension off the floor to avoid zapping stuff.
Dangerous stuff that.

wow that sucks....not only for the money lost (at least they will replace part though), but more so for the time required to clean up, and the effort.... looked like a nice tank

Hello, I am very sorry about your tank breaking. I have read the set up instructions on new big tanks like 300 gals. They say you must level the stand and have all 4 corners firmly on the ground with shims used if necessary. Then use 1inch of styrofoam sheet under the tank on top of the stand for evenness on the stand from the tank. Any chance you were off a little on one of these things?

The only reason why any tank manufacturer will cover all damages other then replacing the tank is because they know something was wrong with their tank or batch of tank and Paid you fast so you don’t sue for more. I know Oceanic had this happen once. They used a bad batch of silicon and had a boat load of tank lead badly.

Also from the looks of it the tank isn’t tempered, most manufacture I deal with will use tempered panels for a tank that size.

i bet the people that made it are dumbfounded, thats why anything over 75 gallons i build myself

What experience do you have in building large glass tanks? It seems to me that a manufacturer with years of experience and proper tools would be able to build a tank better then most (I’m going to exclude China on this one) DIYer. The chance of you screwing up is probably much higher then theirs.

wow man thats an impressive break line....

i can remember 8 years back in south africa I had this 4ft tank on a metal stand which was happily up and running for about 6 months... it was in my bedroom and I woke up and went to the loo to have a long morning slash... afterwards i could still hear water and while rubbing the sleep out of my eyes realised it was coming from my room!!!!

ran in there to find that the front panels silicone was leaking a jet of water from the bottom middle seal.... it was spraying out about a metre like a water pistol onto the carpet...

Standing there dazed, half asleep and confused it slowly became stronger till eventually the whole front bowed out as the siolicone lost grip and emptied out the gravel and fish onto the carpet in a matter of seconds!!!

I had to cgrab my 2 8" oscars with my hands and run back to the bathroom and throw them in the tub...open the taps and fill the tub!!! (both hot and cold on full as i had no time to think) then go back for the plecos and everything else that was flapping around!

They all survived thankfully to the good tap water in cape town and the fact it was summer i guess...so while i bought the tank no heating was needed.

I know your pain... but it is an experience to look back on i guess and you had minimal loss which is pretty remarkable :)
