Monster Fish without home - 220 gal tank explodes!

I feel your pain.. This is the exact reason I went all acrylic tanks from now on. I had two perfecto tanks leak on the bottom and an oceanic failed as well. No more glass for me.

And the guy who claims his Tenecor 300 exploded is a liar. Tenecor only makes Acrylic tank and those tanks simply cannot go out like that.

I have a 90 gallon from the early 90s (93) that has 1/2 inch glass.

Makes me wonder what the tank manufacturers are up to these days if they are building tanks more than twice this size without increasing the glass thickness even one bit...

I still can't believe this disaster happened..

glad everyone is okay.

as you might imagine, that could have been a major saftey issue.. for both adults and children..

I had the same thing happen to me with a 100 gallon tank. It sounded like a gun went off.

I now have an acryllic tank..........anyone want to start up the debate again about glass vs. acryllic. This would never happen with an acryllic.

Sorry if I sound like a jerk, but I did live thru something just like that, NOT ONCE BUT TWICE and totally swore off glass.

well now i'm freaking out... i bought a 210 (glass) used and its not in the best of condition...

HOLLY CRAP!!, sorry that had to happen to you, hope the fish make it out ok from it.

What a nightmare. It makes me a little nervous to say the least. Those pictures will haunt me. But on the upside, at least you were home to recover your fish.

Dayum - that is one of the craziest things I've seen. I always would have thought the area near the top of the tank was more prone to breaking. I guess if you got a bad seal, it doesn't matter which edge its on.

I'm glad it seems like everything may work out alright on this for you, but you realize how much you've scared everyone on here now!!:nilly::nilly::nilly:

Everyone with glass tanks over 75 gallons is gonna be checking there edges and what not everyday. To be honest, I'm gonna reconsider what to do if I end up upgrading. Best of luck to you, man.

any pressure vessel will always have the maximum pressure at the bottom of it due to the weight of the water. The deeper the water the more weight and pressure is applied.

This is my worst nightmare... i cannot amagine the shock you lived through.. horrible but glad you were fast acting to save the fish..:WHOA:
