More tank pics, updated

She can easily eat jumbo pellets. Lately she has a game called 'drop in the bucket' where she comes up and waits for me to plop pellets in her mouth. If it goes past she takes her sweet time going after them.

I get a look like "you expect me to get that?" and she'll keep waiting for the next one as others fall to the bottom. :irked:

I get that from most of my cichlids. Sev and kribs are the only ones I can count on to always eat of the bottom. Jack, parrot, con, and acaras are a tossup.
When I had mbunas they would not touch floating or grounded. Only what was in the water column. Lots of uneaten food to clean...

Update and yes, pics.

First, the "acara mafia in the sun" time appears to be over. I don't know what happened or exactly when, but Rocky and Jazz are no longer shooting out when fish swim by. In fact they pretty much stay hidden in their area behind some plants. My mom joked that maybe they had been eaten by (you know who) I didn't want to even think it! ? To make matters worse I saw Brick near the back moving his mouth like he does after eating a nightcrawler. I was relieved to see the acaras this evening after not seeing them for almost two days. In any case somebody has put a stop to their nonsense.

Everyone else is doing well. Corn is a character, but he has a sense of his place in the heirarchy. He and Boss get along well. Still goes after Pepper for whatever reason. He's back and forth with Pip but generally gets along reasonably well with the HRP. Pip's color is really showing now, the blue circle and face patches. He's even got an 'electric blue' line going along his top fin. Roams the whole tank and doesn't give a hoot about tank mate size. He darts, scoots, and glides all over the place. When Corn messes with him he messes right back.

I continue to make adjustments to increase floor space but keep 'get away' areas, privacy and sight breaks. Its a tricky thing/balancing act that's a work in progress. Right now some of the territory lines have blurred a bit. But if a fish stays too long out of his turf he gets run out. So more tolerance, but everyone still wants their space. The adjustments have helped the synos too, they've calmed down from their mania. Cash is sitll missing a chunk of skin on his right side. Bobo's one millionth cracked lip is healed again.

I had to do a major clean of the big tank today. Stuff and gunk in areas that was...ugh. Increased space along the back wall, too. Brick and Boss took advantage right away (its over in Bobo's area). Corn has made a home over on Bobo's side. Pip pretty much sleeps over there too but during the day he gets 'out.' Same with Pepper. Brick just loves swimming between and through stuff.

Its pretty cool to see everyone go from high activity to that 'calm zone' that happens in early evening with the magenta lights go on. Its like a tonic or something. Then later under blue light everyone starts disappearing into hidey holes. Well, not Brick...he rests on the bottom with his head on his rock pillows.

The floating plants arrived today! Red Root and giant frogbit. Very healthy with thick roots! I'll do a weekly pic on their growth.

Pics of the floaters below. Not a bad one in the bunch! You can see some of them have solid roots already. I'd say the longest ones are like 1 1/2" and thick. Under high light and I've added two tablespoons of ammonia to get the party started.

My phone is now working reasonably well but I'll still need a new one. Seems as if going to Wifi Calling has stopped the insane battery drain I had. I did resolve the charging issue but the drain was bad. Still can't get updates for compatibility/function of apps because phone's past two years old, the magic built in obsolete year. My 'up to date' phone last had a patch in 2018!

The floaters, all nice and pretty. I love the way they just flip right side up because the roots are heavy:

Update on the floaters....eh. My second package of red roots arrived with you guessed it, MINI frogbit MIXED IN which isn't what I wanted (it was the mysterious bonus plant). So two days later some of the red root is shedding roots in clumps. The frogbit hasn't spread like I expected but that's okay SINCE I DIDN'T WANT IT ANYWAY. I specifically said GIANT frogbit.

I've been siphoning clumps of bad roots and mush leaves off the bottom every 3 days or so. Right now I've got about 45-50 percent still healthy red root. I may just take that out, rinse and remove the tiny frogbit. I've got too much aeration for the frogbit and it would probably just clog stuff.

Don't you love sellers who act like they're doing you a favor by adding 'bonus' stuff? Meh...back to the pothos. At least I never had to treat pothos vines for parasites...just rinse and toss in. I'd get more guppy grass but it would just be expensive salad again.

Mainly want something with long roots. I'm gonna have to rescue the remaining red root (which isn't turning red either).

More updates, funny and not.

The funny first. My pit bull of an HRP Pip chases both acaras (at the same time) when they try to jump him. This confuses Rocky and Jazz, so they juke but don't get too close. When they do he clips them on the lip, sending them flying

Brick decided to get exercise by running Bobo around. The normally peaceful choc was clearly annoyed and took it out on Corn, running the severum into another area. In turn Corn took it out on Pepper the rainbow, who kept the chain moving by going after the acaras. Then Pip 'backed up' Pepper with the acaras and flared at the severum Corn.

My BP Boss watched all this like "Wtf?" as the small fish swirled all around him. Meanwhile Brick and Bobo went to 'bed' in their areas. I made a SMALL change in decor, removing a couple of small pieces that weren't necessary. Larger plants were spread out to compensate and give more breathing room underneath for the inmates. Pip immediately colored up and his belly went pink/orange. He darted into the new spaces. Naturally this sent off a new round of squabbling with Rocky, Pepper, Jazz, Pip, and Corn. Things settled down after a bit.

Now the not funny. The synos may have to go into the backup tank until I figure whether to keep them. Generally Spot (smaller) gets the upper hand but tonight Cash got in shots. Their wild tumbling is pissing off the 'big 3". What makes all this strange is that I've actually increased the floor space for them to use. They're getting tattered too...and maybe not just from each other. They go quiet for about three days then go berserk.

I did a huge w/c yesterday (90%). In cases like this I add extra prime. So...everything was cool or so I thought. This evening I go get their food and to do Tango's tank. Pepper starting flashing. It seemed to be a 'my turf' thing. But then he kept doing it repeatedly, so I started watching. Awhile later Boss looked like he was going to flash then straightened back up. Then Corn did a rub after that. Minutes later Boss flashed. So now I'm like #$%&&.

All the other fish were fine and not flashing. But being the cautious type I broke out the salt. With the exception of Pepper the flashing is sporadic. I only clean the mechanical pads of the filters...don't touch the bio media at all.
