Pip had doubled in size by the time I introduced Mongo to the 225. The new parents are both 3 inches here! Somewhere in that cloud are all the future giants! DOB as free wigglers Feb 3, 2022. Three days of chasing, Pip disappearing for a week then BOOM.

Baby pic of the bad brothers (7/21). They arrived several days late in delayed delivery in 100 degree heat. I was panicked, they were ok. They're settling in here. Mongo is 2 1/2 inches here, Slade a tiny 1 1/2"! Not only were they ok I had to separate them 2 hours later because of fighting!

I will be pulling photos from the archives so this will be one of my more ambitious posts. I want it to be entertaining and informative for everyone. It will not be a quick read. There will be backstory. There will be two 'books'. The first one will deal with my Oscar Brick. Book two will chronicle his relationship with the parrot Boss and how it evolved. Everything will not be posted together. When I say books I really mean two parts, not some long ass piece of literature. Anybody saying "all this over a fish?" My answer? Damn straight. That's why we're here on MFK. It's all about the story.

When I make captions its based on observation and deductive analysis. Sometimes its been accurate and sometimes not. Over time I've developed visual cues for the cichlids which I'll get into later. Their intelligence is astounding. What they recognize, their relationships with each other, problem solving and how they respond to me based on mood.

I've pretty much had every type of 'pet' under the sun except for dogs and cats (parents). I've had snakes, box turtles, frogs, fish, skinks, toads, hamsters, giant snails, a fire lizard, geckos, salamanders, spiders and a chameleon. Learned a lot and had fun experiences.

Most of you reading my posts may notice I have a certain 'style.' It's because I write various fanfiction and am a published author. But 'I'm an artist at the core who has always had a great love for animals. I almost made the decision to be a vet in high school but art finally won out. Commercial art and photography is my background. (I don't do it for a living though, gotta eat).

I'll be off for the holidays so it will give me time to work on this project. Hope y'all will enjoy it when it's done.

Just a small update and confirmation.

Working on the text for year five. I've finished the portion on Brick and have started on the Boss part. Culling pictures from the archives and sorting.

Official confirmation on Brick's size

He is 3.5" wide, ~7 inches tall (body) and 15 inches long. Have no idea what he weighs. Body width has caught up to his head. Up until last year he was slightly tapered. Now he's more muscular along the sides.

Will be organizing photos after the text. Still days away. It's Saturday, so I'm chillin'.

At the fish store, they had an adult Oscar that reminded me of your Brick. He was thick and bulky and definitely had the physical appearance. Didn't have the length, though.

Just wanted to mention it :)

I’m trying to imagine what Brick must look like in person, but I doubt I’m doing him any justice. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an Oscar the size of Brick.
