Patch loves her daily bubble showers. I've purchased the bendable bubble hoses that will go in her upgraded tank (whenever I get it). Kong will get one as well.

These two characters in formation mode. They seem to have settled their differences. Cash was the original catifish and Spot added later. At first Cash slammed Spot around. Then it reversed, Spot was beating the tar out of Cash...now they seem cool with each other.

Cash is the larger tan syno, Spot the smaller brown one. They're coming out more too, swimming upside down or floating that way. It's pretty cute.

News! It's Saturday night in Goon City...

LIBERATION Day! After 4 months in QT the rainbow cichlid Pepper and acara Felix joined their new tankmates in the 225. I placed them in a fish cup for about an hour so the others could get a look at them and they could calm down some at their new surroundings. Rapid breathing and dark color at first, then they settled nicely. Felix took a couple of dives out of the cup (I caught him) so I covered it with a large fake lily pad.

So Bobo the Choc comes up right away to investigate. He stayed by the cup for about 15 minutes. Of course the other two were nervous as Bobo dwarfs them and hovered close. But it was all good.

Boss (BP) low key checked them out at a distance. Then he went across the tank, did a couple of "territory" scrapes then went back in his area with Brick. Brick didn't come out right away and I wanted to see how it would go with Pepper, for obvious reasons. Later big red charged out and immediately chased the rainbow first (I stayed close in case of trouble). Then he chased the acara. Then he chased Bobo. Boss chilled and watched the whole thing from his vantage point.

So after an hour the new entries settled in nicely. In fact Felix colored up after only a few minutes. Pepper is sporting his bold black stripe pattern. Here's where it stands now:

Despite being the smallest fish in the tank, Pepper is already trying to push the acara around. Felix flared back a couple of times. Pepper also follows the Choc around a bit. The syno catfishes are squabbling again. Spot (smaller syno) went after Pepper a couple of times. Pepper definitely has the attitude of a Convict...but he's no dummy. If Brick, Boss or even Bobo comes his way too fast he's out of there like lightning. But he's not intimidated in the least and doesn't hide. The 225 must feel like an ocean to him and the acara. They swim and explore the entire tank, even going around the much larger fish. With Pepper I now see what people say about Centrals vs South americans. He's small as spit, has but 100 percent attitude. So after being bothered by Spot, Pepper took a pop at the catfish on the nose. He even trailed the Oscar once, despite the ludicrous mismatch in size.

Bobo the Choc seems to have found new buddies. He gets along well with both the acara and rainbow. (This was the plan). They seem more relaxed around the Choc than the other two cichlids. Unfortunately it doesn't mean a damn thing to Brick and Boss...since everyone is jockeying again they started hounding Bobo more aggressively. Bobo keeps going in their turf again looking for trouble (and finds it). Its one of the reasons his lips stay chewed up.

Brick swims around the new entries and watches them, lunging at times. They have multiple escape routes/hides and too much speed, so he slowed a bit. Still gonna watch, though. But so far so good...once he realized it would take too much energy to catch, he slowed down. Times like this I'm glad he wasn't raised on live food...but he's still an Oscar with a big maw. I made sure he was fed twice in an hour. The acara and rainbow have already figured out they're safe swimming near Brick as long as they aren't in front of him.

Boss is perfectly cool with the acara and rainbow, showing no aggression towards them at all. Of course parrots have Central blood so that may be a factor. This is the first time he hasn't had a strong reaction to new fish. He swims around them with no issues.

The best part is that the activity level is now full of energy...even the larger fish are exploring areas of the tank they haven't bothered with in weeks. So everyone is all over the place...fussing and fighting. Pics coming soon.

Just another thug weekend...
