Ottos die a lot. One theory is that they're collected with cyanide (they're almost always wild caught!).
Really? i never knew that... so thanks for the heads up...

looking great! I'm battling some hair algae also and would love some suggestions also.
Thanks, and yeah hair algae is a P.I.T.A

Ottos won't touch hair algae. Try amano shrimp. They should eat it and stay small enough for that tank.
Looks good!
Actually, i've been so stupid all this time i forgot about this type of Chinese Red Nose Shrimp as its called over here... extremely hard workers and will take care of any algae... i must go and see if i can get some this weekend possibly?

Anyway, will be updating some pics in the next few days hopefully... so keep an eye out...

^ Thanks :D, I definitely recommend it, its actually quite a lot of fun planning out the whole process and actually getting down and doing it...

Plus theres a few of them on here, so you can always steal some ideas on how to set yours up if you decide to set one up...

Very nice. I'm sure you'll be wanting to build a monster paludarium soon.

Oh and is the watefall the return from the canister? If so thats a good idea.
You know it :naughty:

But yeah, this tank is basically a test run for me to see how the plants would do, as well as to test out any problems i may encounter setting up a paludarium... hoping that in a year or so to maybe upgrade to a 4' wide tank and possibly keep a chameleon or some other reptile on the land area...

Oh and as for the waterfall, yes, it was built to serve as a way to hide the return from the canister filter...

Good to hear... i think you'll enjoy the project, lots of fun learning and trouble shooting how to setup such a system... albeit at times it can be frustrating...
