As far as the silicone goes, I left some wood bare so the silicone will stick nicely to the wood. Once the initial silicone cures, I will but a beam around the outside edge of the glass and when that is sured I eill seal everything by going from the tank, over the silicone and onto the glass with silicone. That should seal it up nice.

Yes, the sump will serve as both mechanical and biological. My only concern with the sump right now is that the holes in the drip plate will not be big enough for all of the water to pass through.

I was actually asking about the poret foam being both mech and bio, or just one of those two.

how come i dont see your top support?
cant wait till that tank get is first taste of water

watching your build, take pictures of how you set the glass. I get the idea of how your going to seal the glass to the wood with silicone, then come over it with pond coat, but pictures would be great.

I have not installed the top support yet. Once I get the glass siliconed and a few coats of pond coat around to really seal the glass in, I need to upright the tank and add a rather large pice of driftwood. Once that is done I will add the top.

Glass is already siliconed in but I will take pictures of that and the pond coat appliaction.

How are you liking how the glass sets against the wood with the silicone? I really like how it worked out on my tank expansion 170s so far. Can't wait to get the Rubber Coat on them.

I like it, I did put some small 1/2" spacers on the wood so the weight of the glass would not squeeze out all of the silicone.
