You need a wife like mine that actually approved of the tank. Today she said "you should have made it bigger". And I confirmed that she was talking about the tank!
Yes Ross, you do have a very supportive wife who shares a love for the same hobby you enjoy. Thanks for the clarification, there!

My wife asked me the other day, "Why dont you just make it 2' longer?" Her thinking was to make my tank 4'x4'x10' instead of 4'x4'x8'. Aren't we blessed to have such supportive wives? The bigger question now is . . . Where does one find 3/4"x4'x10' sheets of 7 or 9 ply - plywood, with out making a special order for an entire unit (a banded stack) of the plywood? Lowes and Home Depot doesn't carry it as part of their normal inventory. It's all special order and I'd have to buy the entire unit of plywood. A.K.A. ---> A BUTT LOAD OF CASH. :WHOA: Please Advise!!

8 footers cut down to 5'. Because you are talking about doing a frame I cant imagine that 10' ply is very cheap due to having to special order.

The only think I can think of is doubling up the plywood along the back wall staggering the seam. Then fill the seam with wood filler and sand it smooth. Shouldn't be too hard really.
I did some more calculating on tank volume and I'm thinking I'll probably stay with 4'x4'x8' (957.50 U.S. GALLONS) of volume for now. A 4'x4'x10' is a volume of water around 1,196.883117 U.S. Gallons. Almost 240 gallons more than originally planned. But what's an extra 2' in length? Just more room for more MF, right?

As far as doubling up on the seams, you're right, it probably wouldn't be difficult to do, but would I need to do that if I had 2"x6" exterior stud framing, spaced 8" O.C. and double plates top and bottom? I'm not quite understanding why you would do this, (doubling up on the seams for the back wall).

It probobly isnt required but if I were dealing with a tank that size with that kind of water volume, the extra $40 in plywood would be cheap insurance. I just want to make sure that the seam in the back wall is strong, very strong. If I were going to do a build like that I would go 12' and get the most out of my materials.
