My 315G Plywood Tank Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Received one of those phone call this morning at work that all DIY tank builder just hate. It was the wife on the phone letting me know I had a leak all along the top of the viewing window . She told me that the carpet was soaked, the loveseat that sits in front of the tank was soaked fron where the water had been leaking from the tank all night. She said it was steadily dripping! I rush home from work and start to investigate and find that the screens on the overflows had clogged up and the water has risen to a level in the tank that it was not designed to go. It was more of an overflow then a leak. Needless to say I have removed the screens and cleaned up the water and life is good! :D

Thats lucky a leak would have been devastating.

Very impressive job on the finish wood work. Looks great! So glade to see all is going well with just a few bugs to tweak. I have not keep up with the blog for a while now, (to busy with my outside plants and veggie garden) so how have you stocked it?

Sorry to hear about the overflow. Glad it wasn't a real leak. But do you think the overflow ended up wetting your wood structure? Are you worried about potential rotting etc?

I am sure some water got into the wood but I am not worried about it. Without a source for more water it will dry with no damage.

I let my wife stock the tank and she had loaded it up with about 150 assorted tropicals. And to be honest, it was one of the easiest, most peaceful tanks I have ever had. The nice thing is I can go to the LFS and get 15-20 new fish and not worry about a thing.

haven't checked in awhile, the finish product looks nice. your build is bookmarked for future reference on getting that seal around the viewing window right with liquid rubber.

Tank is pretty much finished. I am going to add a small viewing window on the side of the tank stand that will let me see the water level in the sump without having to remove a shelf insert....but thats about it.
