I just redid my water supply to both my swamp coolers on my roof. I used PEX line and tapped off my hot water supply. This stuff is great! It was cheap and very easy to work with! There's all kinds of T off valves so you can T off of any water line in your house then run the pex line along the walls or under the carpet. It's about the size of a cable TV line. For my 450 I ran a copper supply line and that was a PITA! The PEX line is the way to go.

The hardest part about a drip system is the drain. Your tank looks like it's in the middle of the house. Do you have a outer wall to run the drain too? If you can get a drain line in the rest is cake. Minimum drain size I would use is 1.5" that way you can shove the end of a python hose in it for gravel cleaning, no buckets. :) I don't buy into the pre-filtering of my drip system but I would think it would be easy to set up, just run a filter in line or some kind of RO system?

You will love the drip system, guaranteed!

Nice! Thanks for the link. Just to the right of the tank is the stairs, but the wall to the right of them is the garage with the water lines right on that wall. I'm hoping to drill a hole under the stairs and run both in and out lines through that. I figured the drip line could drip right into the tank and the drain could come off the sump. Once the sump reaches a certain capacity it automatically flows out. The drain line will run through the garage and out the side of the house. I think I'll plant a tree on the side of the house and see how fast it grows.

With the drip installed, I shouldn't have to worry about water changes at all. The koralia 8 powerheads do a great job of keeping the tank clean. The main focus will be making the sump easy to clean. After that, the tank should be maintenance free.

thats cool man you have a 425 Gallon fish tank!! from Craigslist for $2,000 that is actually pretty reasonable! But im 16 so i gotta wait till im out of high school then fly to well Arizona cause my dad grandma+pa and my uncle is there to so i wanna move there to such this town isnt great anymore but yea it sucks if you wanted a stingray tank cause there illegal in AZ but if i were you get some bichirs, gars, or arowanas well maybe but get permits for the rays lol...i like to see your future tank when its done man!!!!!!
450! I'm counting those last 25g for everything they're worth. Plus the sump volume, woo!

I used to live in Michigan and know exactly where Alpena is. I used to live in West Branch growing up...middle of nowhere farming country.

I know its hard at 16, but be patient and keep saving your money. Practically every cent of my extra income has went towards fish in the past year.

Someone told me gars are illegal in AZ too.............and don't come here if your not a US citizen. Lots of dumb laws here :(
It seems everything neat, fun, or cool is illegal.

I wonder if Steve Nash ever gets asked for his papers?

It's the current freshwater lights:

1 24x watt 10k Daylight
1 24x watt fresh water

I need to post up some more pictures. The stand and canopy are now stained and on. Looks really good.

I redid my plumbing yesterday. Got rid of the 80g sump and am now using a 55g tote. Here's hoping the power doesn't go out before I get the drain/drip line hooked up. I could end up with some water on the floor.

I now have 1.5" plumbing going to the pump, and 1.5" going to the tank. At the tank it gets reduced to 1", there's then about 10-12" of lock-line inside the tank. There's two returns though, so my water flow isn't all that restricted. In fact, I now have to dial back the pump because my overflows can't keep up. My next project is fixing those.

My new pump design helps tremendously with particles in the water. It should stay much cleaner as well, which will hopefully help with nitrates.
