Controlling the water level is as easy as adding water or taking water out! But yes, the dividers do work in a way to control the water level. The minimum water level in each section will be at the tip of the divider. So where you place your divider will control the MINIMUM amount of water you will have in each section. If you want more water, then simply add more. Does that help?

That's what's great about having people that have already created and completed diy projects, their input is invaluable. A lot of mine have been the trial and error kind......well quite a few errors
