My tank has finally arrived

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah geos and clown loaches are nice fish.
Some guys on this site have massive schools of loaches in their tanks. That must look awesome having schools of 50 or more.

No kidding. Some day I'll have a huge monster tank with a ton of loaches!

Is your tank fully stocked now, or are you planning on adding more fish?

No far from full, I do want to add some more fish to the tank. Trying to decide between;
-Either one or two monster fish (an aro, or a RTGG etc)
-a few more large laid back CA/SA cichlids (bocourti, severums etc)
-a few peacock bass (but not sure if loaches would be fine as the bass out grow them, assume filament barbs would get eaten too)

The Tank needs something more 'Monster' in there but don't want something too aggressive as the tank sits right in the middle of the house and don't want something chasing the others non stop.

So am open to suggestions and would like to know what you guys thought.

As everyone else has said, you got a beautiful tank there. I would think a nice Red Tail Giant Gourami would look great in your tank, I prefer them to the silver arowana because they are a multilevel swimming fish. I would suggest a nice female one, but you can't go really wrong with either sex.

Thanks RedDwarf, good point on the RTGG, I was considering the silver aro as the tank top sits way above head height and one would look pretty cool at that height.

But do like the look of the RTGG compared to the other larger GG's. Are the RTGG less aggressive then normal GG's??

They can hold their own and mine is about 6" now and he doesn't back down from anything in my 220. The bocourti and chocolate doesn't really bother him and the dark body and red fins are starting to get better each day. How can you not like this:

Yeah awesome fish you got there. I am watching your thread on him for updates.

I am not worried about other fish bothering him as they are all pretty placid in my tank. Just didn't want to add a fish that is aggressive. I guess GG's all have different personalities.

I have a RTGG with a Black Aro in a 450. The Black is 30" and the RTGG is probably 15". The RTGG pushes the Aro around. Doesn't like silver fish I'm guessing. Hates my two 1 foot Bala Sharks but can't catch them lol. I would suggest getting a Black and a RTGG. You have the room for sure.

Yeah would love a black aro. Have never seen any around here though. Like the silvers but hate how most get drop eye.

Does the RTGG chase most of the fish in the tank?

Would hate for him to pick on the AUL as he is really slow.

I have a 30" AUL in my tank also. The RTGG completely ignores it. Mine seems to focus on silver fish for some reason. The Balas keep him busy and every once in a while the Aro strikes back and the GG backs off. Most of the time the Aro just ignores the GG but having a much larger 30" Aro helps.

The Black Aro is my favorite, no drop eye. They don't get as big as silvers also. Big problem is they are wild caught and I think they kill the parents to get the babies. That bothers me a little. I don't want my hobby to hurt the species kinda stuff.

Gosh that must be a big AUL. That's like double mine....

Have never seen black aro's for sale over here. But will keep an eye out. I like how hey are more peaceful then Aussie aros and also don't get drop eye.
