wow good save glad to here it survived. so is there anything your gonna do to stop it from happening again? personally I would eliminate the culprit but I hate cats and obviosly you don't. I hope to get a picture of it one day but my Alligator gar and my Rotti are facinated with each other nad sit nose to nose at the tank looking at each other. and none of us care for the felines.
I don't know how to stop it because I'm still not sure how she got to it. The only theory is that the fish went for a ride under ground and ended up in the settling chamber and she got it from there. It has been a while since they've done that though. The S/c is now covered as well.

This thread is awesome! I envy you!
Thanks, I started it myself;)

:welcome: to MFK

well with the S/C covered you eliminated one possibility and hopefully it was the one used. I was just at a friends house today and saw their pond they did a great job of the landscaping around the pond but to much of the liner is showing. I wish I had my camera they had some awesome ko in it of different colors. she was telling me that she has a pair that are breeding right now and she may have some fry coming soon. we couldn't spot the eggs so we will see. next time I'm there I will try to get a picture of it to share. its a good size at 8'x10' its more of a natural look but I like yours better its been finished off nicely that you can enjoy it

Are there plants? If it's like mine with no plants there will be no where to spawn. She'll need to throw in a filter brush or something similar to spawn on.

The pond is still looking crap, I'm having to clear the strainer on vortex one almost hourly of the dead bits of blanket weed etc. Until the pond balance stuff finishes doing the trick I've just got live with it.

As I'm planning to be bored for a while I've started writing up an article on the whole thing, I think I can get it down to 4-5 pages for peeps that don't want to read the whole thing. I don't think I've posted this before and I remember the wife taking ages to get the right shot:

Sheesh, so much trouble from one little hole in the ground. I've never seen anyone with so many problems. ;)

Sorry to hear

hey Yanbbrox yeah she has some plants in the pond it would be cool to see a spawn of koi. there is also a rock feature they like to hide in. I won't be cack there for a week or so but I will see what I can do to get a picture she has some really cool looking koi. that shot of the hole is cool did she have you pose to get the shadow just right? that is a big reminder how much hasgone into this thing to look back on it. looking forward to seeing the article.

Yeah it took many tries to get the shadow right. Don't get excited about the aricle, it's going to be a condensed version of this thread;)

Looking forward to see the pictures of the koi. With a natural pond you've got more of a chance of some of the spawn making it as they've got somewhere to hide. My dad's pond is natural and he's had some spawn a few years back, out of the whole spawn one or two fish made it to juvi the rest were eaten. That's why a spawning mat is better, once they've spawned remove the mat and you have a better chance.
