New project, will take a long time

I will take the rain we have had 10 prarie fires this week in our fire protection area. (i'm a volunteer fireman) and it hasn't rained in over a month. the temp has averaged above 30C. I am doing a rain dance and for some reason it keeps sending it to you I would gladly trade for a month or so
Same here, hope it gets raining soon for you

thats a big pond to just be keeping local frogs and newts in I think it would be better if you put a liner in it and at least kept some koi or maybe some monsters in it just my opinion. waiting intently for any progress you are willing to share

Got up and guess what it was raining, so off I went to order the marine ply and bracing posts for hole 2, while I was there I got some cheap ply to start off the collar weather permitting, pictures soon just playing with the sizes in the shop

Does it normally rain this much, this time of year there?
Yes and no, it's summer but even so I expect rain, when the main hole was being dug it rained once during the whole time, since then it's just not stopped. Not necessarily a lot but consistent showers with huge down pours in between, it just won't stop for long enough for things to start drying out. I really want to get the drain concreted in so it's done but it's just too wet, it's a matter of getting things done that can be.

Cue Chester with 'it's still not rained here';)

Ok, no way of fitting the drains and pipes with the water in the hole, as mentioned above when getting the marine ply(expensive) I also got some cheap ply to do the collar, I got a power saw the other week which I although it came out of the main budget it has already proved it's worth. The cheap ply came in 8 by 4 sheets that had to be cut down to 4 by 2 just to get them in the car, new power saw in hand I hand no trouble getting them down to size.

Father with me to help, it took us two hours to get to this stage(inbetween rain breaks):

This may seem like an obscene amount of time for something so simple looking but this it the critical bit. The existing patio has to just(and by just I mean 1cm) over lap the pond and the correct level. The rest of the pond will be leveled from this mark including the vortexes, which if that goes wrong the whole project with fail, water everywhere generally a mess, impossible to fix without going back down to code:nilly:

Filled the channels with concrete and it bowed so much the posts were added to add strength:

From here it should be, although not easy simple to get the mark from this concrete for the rest of the pond, est time, Dad, thought 6 days to begin with, after today we both think the whole collar can be done in two full days. The problem is that the end that has been done has a step that could support a brace, the rest is going to have been done in stages as the posts have nothing to sit in.

Comments as always peeps......?

Just re-read that, the picture really do convey how wet it's been recently

wow this project is amazing.

congrats.

hoping to see the complete set up
Thanks, I kind of want the whole thing over and done with myself;)

On the places where the forms haven't got a place to be staked down, you can use threaded rod and large flat washers and nuts to hold the form together...this will keep it from bowing...In the concrete business they are called "ties"
After the concrete sets you can cut the rods off or drive them through flush with the inside of the pond...
