I may have to just take the plunge, we've had that much rain the pond is about a mm from overflowing, It's stopped for now but if it doesn't improve I'll just have to switch the filters on and try and fix everything when it's dry(if there's anything left to fix of course)
 
You should build an overflow for the pond so that it doesn't get too full. runt he drain line to a ditch or something.

When the old pond gets drained and filled in there is going to be a foot or so of rocks at the bottom with the pipe overflow running into that, one to help with general drainage and two for the obvious

Just like tanks you can never have too many. Just build yourself a nice little series of above ground water gardens and spillways over to the old pond and plumb it back to the main pond. That way you can say "but its really only one pond sweetheart"
