New project, will take a long time

Cheapest reasonably large unit I found was Laguna 55w, they are around $150 shipped on ebay. Seems like a decent unit, rated for around 1300gph and has a large spiral chamber. I have been using it for around a month.

There are always the 36w Jebao's for under $90. I have heard mixed opinions on Jebao quality which kept me away. Many serious UVs for me to afford would require selling a kidney.

Thanks, Mrunlucky07(almost used your real name there:nilly:) I'll check it out

No Prob, use whatever name, I am on a handful of forums and have just stuck with the Mrunlucky so I don't have to remember more than one.

good luck with the pond
Thanks, and of course 'bump for zen':naughty:

I'm reasonably annoyed about how poorly the pond is filtering, the plan was always to look at a second filtration system at some point hence why I was thinking of the aquosis skimmer as a second system could be run from it.
Link to Aquosis

The problem with that one was that although it certainly would work, it comes without a pump, therefore making a lot more expensive than it looks and it wouldn't look good on the side of the pond.

So instead I've ordered a Velda floating skimmer, this does come with a pump , plus it's cheaper than the Aquosis one as well. I've read plenty of good things about them in the koi forums, it can be removed and most importantly it will annoy the hell out of Nigel(:naughty:) 'All after market skimmers are crap' etc.

Velda link

This will be here on Monday, occording to my email(I still can't get used to the process of online ordering, click a few buttons and before you know a man with a van turns up at no extra charge:nilly:). So if nothing else this will help out with the leaves problem, which I think is the main cause of the under filtering problem, plus not having the deep water return installed yet is doing nothing to churn up the bottom.

Pump draws water through the skimmer to a chamber that get be removed and emptied, I'll post up some pictures when it arrives. Believe it or not this is the only shot I can find of one working:
