I don't think it works better. I think that its just very convenient. I'm not sure though because I've never even tried it. If the vacume doesn't work I'll try an air compressor.

Here we are trying to get the white concrete on without it washing away with the rain.

Some of the boulders that looked a little tipsy are getting reinforced.

The color of the rocks are coming out nicely.

Another look at my lost 3rd gate valve. They cost $105 here.

We're going for the cement pilar look for the railing, except it will be with white concrete to match the terrace.

When do you think the first fill will be? I am jealous of your crew :)

Is the water going to flow down the stairs like a waterfall?

The Laguna 4200 pump can handle 4200 gph using only 170 watts, thats very efficient.
They are good, but efficiency is overrated. I have 3 lagunas due to their claimed efficiency and price, but they all run about 100w over their rating right out of the box.

cool idea... Vacuum cleaner? really? How would that work better than an air compressor?
The cleaning comes from the volume of air rising lifting the media to dislodge the debris. You only need enough pressure to reach the bottom of the filter, then the rising air does the rest. Key is having a huge volume of air rising. I have read of one person using a commercial 60gal air compressor, problem was it put out high pressure and not enough volume. It worked OK though. 1hp spa blowers are ideal, but 6hp and up shop vacs do fine. There is a good article here http://www.koinations.com/

Like my father told me " build it and they will come". I saw this bird for the first time in 10 years. It's about as big as a turkey. That beak looks like some kind of fishing bird. I'll have to get out my bird book.

Supposedly the pond/pool is ready to put water. I got some serious filter roots on these bad boys. Its incredible how fast these things grow.

While dad goes to work, the kids take advantage of the water at the bottom of the pond/pool.

No shoot left behind.

I tried to wash the dirt out ot the roots of some other plants that I had bought.

It's been a busy weekend.

That looks awesome! It will be interesting to see how much more those plants grow than your others in the pond. I cant wait to see it full! Let us know how the filter start-up process goes.

I filled it up yesterday and it had a major leak. I guess now the reality of this whole project hits. Crap! The guys took the rocks out of two of the corners and filled them with almost pure concrete. The next wave of leaks will probably be between the rocks and tile line.

Also my children were playing around the edge and my little girls pushed my son into my newly planted plants. He went face first into the rushes, breaking about half of them. Well I guess that's what I built it for heh.

An update on the bird. My Biologist father thinks its an inmature Tiger Heron. This project might get more interesting then I had thought.
