New Tropical Pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry I havn't been posting more guys. I've been working to pay for this project.

This last week the guys started filling in some of the floor work.

This is a picture of a reinforced plate to help hold all of this concrete up on the balcony. We also put another wood beam and bolted it to the other. This wood is called almendra. It's like oak.

Here's a better picture of the orchid set up.

The pvc drain pipe that will take the water from the roof and put it into the filter and then to the bottom of my bog to be filtered more. We'll see what this does to the ph level.

I'm going to put these little square pieces of rock on to the almendra beam.

We decided to put the rock flooring on the upper deck.

The white coating on the railing is called Laticrete. It sticks to everything. This is what I'm going to stick the rocks on the the beam with. We had to put another layer on the railing because they put sealer on it already and I wanted to put acid on the whole thing to color it a little bit. I don't want the railing looking so commercial. I'm going for a more natural look.

While the guys were at it I had them pour an area of concrete for me to clean my other fish pond filter. They also put in a drain that conects with an irrigation system to water my plants. This comes from the settleing tank.

what an amazing piece of art. thank you for sharing it with us.

They do good work. I liked the look of the beefy timbers prior to the veneer.
I wish I lived in a place where I could just pour a concrete pad, or anything concrete for that matter, and not worry about freeze/thaw cycles.

I love the wood look, but its just not practical. The rain and the sun is pretty hard on it down here. Ceramic and concrete is much more practical.

Here's the 3/4 hsp pump for vaccuming the bottom of the pond. I got a Jandy 100 gpm canister filter to clean the water before it empties into my filter. Both, the outlet from the vaccum and the rain water from the roof empties into the filter.
I bought some bromiliads today. They were just starting to flower. They grow naturally here. I kind of cheated though and bought these. I screwed the bottom of a couple of palm leaves to the larger palm and whala. A natural planter.
The next couple of pictures are interesting. The water lettace that I have growing in the pool/pond is a light yellow color with burnt looking edges. I have the equivelant of 10 guppies to 20,000 gallons of green water.
The water lettace in the other pond is deep green and healthy. The pond is 3,000 gallons and I have about 35 Dovii's and a koi in there. The water is crystal clear.
Is this just the difference in pond maturity.
