POSSIBLY THIS IS WHAT THE Yellow beads do. in a rainsoft filter. ..... i am just going based on past large aquarium projects, i have talked extensively with the guy who built the 1700g shark tank and he ran it for well over a year without a single water change and no problems

i am simply going off of what i know about a Large scale eco system and what i have been told by others, take none of what i say as fact, as i am just giving my interpretations of what i have learned and heard in the past. Also bear in mind that i have no... (read ZERO) expirience with freshwater aquariums. so if this stuff relates to marine ecosystem than it does, but if not then so be it...

Ah.... I think that's the difference.

FW tanks (for the most part) aren't dosed with replacement chemicals as are marine tanks. There aren't refugiums filled with macroalgae and plankton, live rock, calcium reactors, regular chemical additives (trace and other elements), etc. Water changes are very difficult and expensive in SW, so most of the hobby is built around NOT changing water. The opposite is true with FW.

:) the nitrate filter is now running in the continuous mode.....

it takes tank water at 40 ppm and reduces it to 20ppm nitrate.

right now its running at about 150 gph.

as the bacteria build up it should be run at between 500-1000 gph.

pic shows the nitrate tests dark=tank light=from filter

(40ppm and 20ppm nitrate)
