Official Off Topic Discussion Thread #1

Out of the blue, she said if I didn't leave her alone she would file sexual harassment on me. I was shock and told myself this isn't going to happen. I went straight to our boss. She(boss) knew it was B.S. I didn't talk to that girl anymore

Hello; This story illustrates another problem with the "sexual harassment" stuff. That is it appears to be a matter of perspective. Back a few decades ago it was pretty clear. Now it seems as confused as the whole "gender" type thing.
The definition of harassment is going to be very broad.

Good point. I was wondering what is considered harassment... is asking someone on a date more than once harassment?

That seems perfectly normal to me. Harassment is repeatedly asking them after they say no

Google definition:

harassment (typically of a woman) in a workplace, or other professional or social situation, involving the making of unwanted sexual advances or obscene remarks

So I think a second date is fine.

Hello; Under the "new" definitions of many things it seems to be in the eye of the beholder. My guess is for some asking for a date more than once will qualify.

An example came to mind. Back around Halloween there were folks saying we should not wear native indian costumes or Mexican style hats. They had a term for this which I cannot recall. During that same time the Formula 1 race in Mexico was going on. I saw Mexican fans with a large poster of Louis Hamilton and the picture had a Mexican hat his head.

The rules of life they are a changing.

So,Hey baby is sexual harassment. No wonder so many woman are confused on this.

Yeah its loke the target is moving. No clear line

These people are trying to avoid "cultural appropriation" against cultures that don't always mind. I recall a story of a Mario game where he had a Mexican outfit which caused a lot of remarks from certain groups meanwhile those from the Mexican culture were totally cool with it. Similar story with a girl who did a show in traditional Japanese dress, positive feedback from those she was apparently "stealing culture from"

So,Hey baby is sexual harassment. No wonder so many woman are confused on this.
I think it depends on how you say it, although to be honest I'm thinking obscene remarks would be sexual in nature? Not saying hi... Although tone of voice can be a major player in it too. Also it depends if it's at a party for example and people are getting comfortable compared to a sleazy dude on the street randomly saying it to an attractive passer-by.. it's one of those things that can't easily be pinpointed
