Upgraded from a 20L to 29H later on in 1974 to house my discus. Note the undergravel uplift tubes with the small charcoal holders.

The same 6' tank a year later (1976) in a different apartment. Note the one large Super Supreme HOB filter and rubber Primer bulb.

1977 20H I set up at my girlfriend's house.

BTW - We got married in 1979 (and still are). It must have been the fish tank that convinced her (and her family) that I was the right man.....

My wife's birthday gift to me back in 1987. Still using an undergravel filter. I later upgraded the filter by installing power heads on top of the uplift tubes.

BTW - I still use this 26G tank as a grow-out tank. So for those worried about how long a silicon seal can last... at least 24 years.

Those pics sure bring out memories...

I started helping my father with his 3 (small) tanks when I was 7, back in 1976. Those were funny tanks, looking back. I´ll see if I can find any pics (not likely, though). 3-4 years later the tanks were at my care.

The first money I won, back in 1982, was when I sold ~500 guppies to the neighbourhood´s LFS (that still exists with the same employee!).
I still remember that they were sold at 10 portuguese escudos the females and 15 pte the males (the LFS was selling them at 2x that price).
And the settings I had for the guppies: 2 tanks of 60*30*30 cms / 54lts each (24*12*12" / 15gal) with under gravel filter and java moss covering almost 2/3 of the tanks.

To give you an idea of the money conversions:
10 PTEscudos = ~5 cents of Euro = ~6,5 cents of USD

Not bad for a 13 y.o.!

And what does a 13 y.o. do when he gets some money out of his fish... buy some more, of course !
So, I bought 3 oscars and 5 piranhas (and still had money for the holidays).

good memories.

Very much south..
I started in 1974, 12 years old! How I miss those times.

I bred Convicts in 1975 and was considered a top gun in breeding, at 13 years of age!!
