Well, if you have the space, then I don't see why NOT :headbang2

Always a good idea to put in a liner for added protection. 4,000G of water weigh quite a bit :)

Why get multiple FX's when you can DIY your own wet/dry and do it so much better. Just put the $avings in tons of media.

Imagine spendingless the amount and getting 4,000G instead of 120G, it's a no brainer. Not everyone can do this because not everyone has the space, for those who have the space, it would be a tragedy for monsterfish keeping fans NOT to do it!
i'll get it done then.. as it'll be on a ground floor the weight wont matter as we have no basement.... can u pm me the stuff i'll need to make a wet/dry filter as i've no idea i just take the easy option and buy a canister filter. but would be cool to try build my own filter from the pics looks straight forward but i'm sure i'd of missed something

thanks

With 2 aro's being added, thought of letting go of some of the fish and decided to dispose of:

27" ID Shark (black): This was the first official resident of the pond, he has always been a bit shy and allows me only to touch his snout and not his body. Whereas the 29" virtually allows me to pet and even partially lift up its body from the water.

14" Golden Giant Gourami: Although a really beautiful specimen, I let it go because she was the only fish in the pond who quickly swam away to hide whenever I'd come near the pond. A major pet peeve of mine because aside from it startling the other fish when it does that, it kinda pisses me off that instead of swimming to me she swam away.

I had a potential buyer and I asked him what his tank/pond dimensions were. When he SMS'd me the dimension, I replied, "okay, I'm quite sure you meant FEET instead of meters, because if you pond is in meters, that comes out close to 15,000G whereas if it were feet, it would still be a monstrous 400G.

It was in meters. :WHOA:

Of course, I gladly volunteered to deliver the fish to him, brought my SLR and videocam. As I was shooting away, there was a message on my SLR screen: "No CF Card...idiot!"

Argh. Visited a 15kG pond with a basement view window and I forgot my CF card.
Was that Arapaimag's house?

It's really not that complicated, just get crates like these:

Bore lots of holes at the bottom. Get a pump, some hose and PVC pipes and get the water to get up to the first crate. It's not rocket science, it is so simple and effective, in fact it is its simplicity that tends to throw people off and have them be more confident in those pricey FXs. In my humble opinion, these are far superior to FXs.

Nope, I'm in the Philippines a bit far off from Arapaimag's house. I WILL go back there and take tons of pictures, just you wait.

I haven't gotten myself to put focus on the external aesthetics of the pond, who knows your reminder might be exactly what I need to finally get myself to do it. ;)

Ghetto style is right. If your not divorced now u will be soon.
There are times when posters try to post something humorous in a desperate attempt to be "part" of the conversation, most of the time they fail miserably-- it's embarrassingly awkward. This post is an example of a monumental failure, a feeble attempt at being facetious that ended in unimaginable emptiness.

I hope you were trying to be funny, because if you weren't, then all those kids bullying you when you were growing up did some permanent damage to your esteem brother, may you find a relationship with Jesus so that He will fill up the love tank so desperately dry within your soul.

I do apologize in advance if you were just really trying to be funny. If you were then your pubescent attempts at humor need to be tempered by good old fashioned manners and politeness.

God bless you, really hope He does.

congrats on the set up and working out most of the kinks :) You're pushing exactly 2x the water I'm doing at the moment :)

I read page 1, then skipped here to 33. From there I read everything backwards (at least everything with pictures) and I am very impressed. A pretty cool setup.

Good job eating the bully fish. They won't make that mistake twice.

I live where it is COLD so I won't be setting up any huge ponds anytime soon, but if I ever am in a warm climate, I will come back to this thread and steal your ideas.

Keep us updated, and great pond!!!
