You could hide the baby mats under the rocks by attaching all sorts of fake plants to it.
Something like this: http://www.aquariumguys.com/giantbamboo.html

Just wrap it up into a bundle and tie it down.

Pond looks great!

That's an EXCELLENT idea, will try that out. Genius! Maybe there's an old plastic Christmas tree somewhere somebody's throwing out that I can use...hehe, I always find ways to save. Here in the Philippines, hardly anybody uses real trees for their Christmas trees, we use plastic ones.

Hopefully the friggin' Pacus don't mistake it for real plants and snack on them. But knowing pacu's they might snack on them just because they look edible...pacus = :screwy:

I believe

is nipping at:

notice the tail is missing a small part, well, small is relative, ask the hi fin and he wouldn't say small is the proper term...hehe

guess, he's sending me signals, he wants a piece of the action in the pond

So, I bag him up:

The time and effort to get him into a grocery bag was surprisingly easy, took me all of 3 mins didn't really put up a fight.

As I got him over the pond, I wanted to hold him closer to me for a quick picture. He wanted NONE of that cr@p and proceeded to jump out of the bag and the container and whew, fortunately for me, right INTO the pond! He flew 4 feet away/across from me, landing almost at the center of the pond. Strong muscles for such a small fish :irked:

This post would have had an entirely different theme if that fish had jumped the other way.

seconds after he landed...

A few more seconds

He turned around and gave me the snake eyes

LOL  Just made me think its like someone saying that we're just missing a small part of our foot.... Not a big deal till it's yours! :grinno: Good news for him, it will probably regrow nicely.

Happy fishy! He's probably swimming around in there thinking, "OMG I must have hit the floor when I jumped, died and went to fishy heaven!"

BTW, I wouldn't worry too much about the rocks. If those catfish decide to eat those smooth rocks, they will just puke them up. It fouls the water, but beyond that they're fine. I know Necrocanis kept his big RTCxTSN with a bunch of rocks like that and, at 38", is obviously just fine. I'd just be concerned with anything sharp. Also, you NEED big cats. :D They end up developing the cutest, friendliest, dog like personalities. (Although, they will probably redecorate the bottom of your pond for you. :D)

Very nice, you have a lot of devotion going into your pond. And some nice fish also. I just found your thread and liked watching the transformation. If your starting up a new set up that is bigger than your old setup you can harness all the already existing bio media in your new setup with the same gph or more(more being better). Than you can add all your fish at the same time your new filtration system starts up and the pond is full. I've done it many times and always works with no problems. Just keep checking your nitrates and nitrites for a while and don't let your media dry out in the process( the faster you transfer it the better). You will be fine.
Great pond in the making. Love the 2' id shark and at that price definatelly grab the second.

You should take a few more pictures, but take a step back so you can see the whole setup, and the inside of the pond.

hehe, can't take any wide shots again just yet. The DIY filtration cabinet is sitting on two ugly white monobloc/plastic chairs. The other pump just has a PVC attached to it and blowing out water to break surface tension.

Water is still around 70% filled. Not really a pretty site...yet! :) But currently talking to two guys selling their giant gouramis (one gray, one white) both are a foot in size, wonder if its a good idea to house them in the pond.

Also got to exchange SMS with this guy who has a monster 5 foot Giant Gourami...got me all excited I think I peed just a little in my pants.

love the pond, just be carfull if you put the rtc in that he dont swollow a piece of the pots or pipes or sharp rock.

Currently housed in my 100G grow out tanks :)

I love how at some angles it's face looks similar to a dolphin's.

Taking a gulp of air. Got this one Monday AM, while I was away, fed him when I arrived today and he actually ate! So much for settling in...

Got all roughed up by the gray one below that I had to separate them

You did what!?!?!?:screwy::ROFL::banhim:

I always hear people joking about eating their fish for misbehaving...but I think your the first person I've seen to actually do it. Congratulations, you just made my night.

All that aside, it's an amazing tank you have set up there. Can't wait to see either the gourami's or Pacu's in there(or both).
