I've got a feeling of pan fried Pacu before this thread hits 150 posts.

hehe.

Actually my wife didn't want anything to do with it. She goes, "I don't want to eat that, you feed it disgusting pellets and stuff..." and I'm like..."what in the world do you think they feed these fish in the commercial ponds?! Steak?!"

Women. :screwy:
Ha! Well, not all women of course. Certainly not the women on this site!
But...my wife is the same way. She loves to eat fish, as long as she doesn't have to look at the fish when it was whole. She made me get rid of my aquarium, after my gar died (after 20yrs).

She tolerates bass in the ornamental pond. I don't give a choice there.

Good luck with that pacu. I wonder how they taste

MAN! You guys have to stop encouraging me like this. I thought I was gonna get bashed for eating our pets...

Sorry to hear about your GAR. 20 years! Wow, how big did it end up?

Anyway, I found a pretty good use for my Pacus, I'm gonna trade them. I now realize that I might not want those Pacus in my pond...why?

1. They might bite the liners.
2. They might bite everything else (ie. wires, piping, tankmates etc)
3. They might bite my fingers (again) when I'm hand feeding the ID shark.
4. They might not allow the other tank mates to eat with their rapacious appetite.

Thus: I have come to the conclusion that Pacus are a special breed needing very special management, I think they're not for me and my planned pond. Pacus = You love them. You love to hate them also. :shakehead

I spoke with someone earlier today who has a 3' ID Shark that needs a new home.
Here is the pix:

Being sold in this thread: http://www.philippinepetfinder.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=120302
Translating the 2nd poster's post: "Will this 3 foot ID Shark (commonly referred to oddly as Hammerhead Sharks in our country) fit in my 75G tank? I'll buy it for $6.00" :screwy: Not for the price but for the tank size question.

Hopefully I'll get this baby on board in a week or two. Apparently he's 3 years old and lives off dog food and mosquito fish feeders in a 100G. At 3' and 3 years, that's a pretty good growth rate, wouldn't you say? I'm just worried about the curvature of the spine...

It was 2+ft. It was very limited by the tank size I could use. I have a very open floor plan and there wasn't any place in the house that could esthetically manage a large enough tank. I should have moved him on to another keeper when he was healthy. My bad. He probably would have lived "forever".

I once had a large mouth bass in with my gar. That was a big mistake. Much like your pacus, the bass was ferocious. We, as a species, should be very thankful they don't get big enough to eat humans! Too bad I did not own a video camera then. I remember dropping in a dozen feeder fish and the bass would start inhaling them (liturally) as soon as they hit the water.
It had 10 in it's mouth inside about 20 seconds or less. He only stopped because he could not get anymore to fit. They were sticking out everywhere including both gills. It was the damndest thing I ever saw.
It was obsessed with making certain the gar got nothing to eat.

After I amazed my friends with it for a while, I ate it. Still the top of the food chain at my house. Except for the cougar that comes around every so often I guess...

You got bit didn't you? lol Always happens wait till you get in there with them, when you need to clean it, they'll go for your toe's (where something over your feet). If it's one fish I know inside & out it has to be the Pacu. Don't get rid of your pacu, they'll grow bored of trying to bite everything just feed them before you stick any new fish in there, as that's what I do. Feed them while you release he new fish into the pond. If I can keep pacu's, you can to!!!! So suck it up. lol Their a great fish no matter how much trouble they case.

1. They might bite the liners.

NO THEY WON'T, they just don't bite liners. I have never seen pacu bite liners or heard at all.

2. They might bite everything else (ie. wires, piping, tankmates etc)

Ok their pretty good about not biteing wires, because I have TONS OF LOOSE WIRES FOR MY LIGHTS IN MY POND & they havn't tryed or been intrested.

3. They might bite my fingers (again) when I'm hand feeding the ID shark.

You have to be more careful & feed them before you feed any other fish & STUFF THEM FULL WITH WHOLE SHRIMP 20 MAX SHOULD DO THE TRICK.

4. They might not allow the other tank mates to eat with their rapacious appetite.

STUFF THEM FULL WITH WHOLE SHRIMP 20 MAX SHOULD DO THE TRICK.

Trust me on all these things, I know what i'm talking about. Just try all the things I said out & it should all work out.

1. The problem is, what if they do. A leaking 1,000G pond doesn't sound like a very pleasant problem.

2. They've bit the wiring AND the flexible tubing of the pump in the tank, I'm sure they're gonna continue with their past time if I transfer them to the pond.

3&4. If I stuff them full and they become full. The moment I throw in other foods, they will continue to eat them and spit it out, very much like our country's President, she's very "full". Pacus are messy eaters and the more full they are the messier they eat. They eat like

i dont really see any spine curves ......
Really, in the picture, the ID shark doesn't seem a bit humped to you? Like his spine is forming like a slight rainbow shape?

 Thanks for the great story! I guess those bass are like the RTC of the cichlid family. How did it taste, very fresh right? hehe

This pretty little monster...

was beating the crap out of my Pacus:

So the intial plan of enjoying my Giant Gouramis in grow out tanks seems to have been foiled! :irked:

Bag 'er up (oooops leaking bag!)

In the Bag...

15 minute float and 5 minute drip

Time to be FREE

Yup, foot long indeed

All this space for me?!

But then, my dominant male Tilapia sensed an intruder :

And proceeded to peck the heck out of the GG as evidenced by these pictures:

I then proceeded to try to catch the tilapia...no way I could catch him from the outside, so I had to go into the pond and 'search and destroy' him with two nets and one PVC pipe. 15 mins after, he accidentally swam into one of my nets. Threw him into the tank with the Pacus. All this because I promised the ex-owner that I wasn't gonna eat him :irked:

BTW, can anybody tell me what makes this photo special?
