Just thought I'd post some updated pictures of the pond. I'm having some issues with muddy water because the area around the surface skimmer settled more than I thought it would, and I'm getting runoff into the pond from there. I have a plan to fix it, and will hopefully be doing that sometime this month.
You can see from the pictures my deck (sorry about the black garbage bags, we've been collecting aluminum cans to recycle). The four posts connected at the top are going to be a pergola. It will cover about 40% of the deck, and extend out over the bog filter several feet. It will also help shade the french doors behind it.
The bog filter is really turning out nice. The water hyacinths I added about 4-5 weeks ago have really started to fill in, with LOTS of little baby plants sprouting out. I'm thinking of moving some of them down to the main pond to give some cover there, and adding some new plants to the bog.
Here is a list of all the plants in the bog:
Water hyacinth
Giant Umbrella Grass - I really like this one!
Zebra Tails
Forget Me Not
Rumex
I've also got some Chameleon plants growing in the waterfalls. They seem to be doing ok so far.
I am planning on picking of a lot of flat rocks to line the edge with, and I still need to add a bunch of mulch up behind the pond, next to the fence. Once I get the mud runoff issue fixed, I'm going to do a large water change to clear out the mud, and hopefully it will get much clearer and stay clearer as well.
I want to add a lot more plants around it once I get it edged in stone and the landscaping done around it. I'm also going to build up with some stone in the shallow overflow stream area, and put some plants there as well.
As of now its home to about 50 feeder comets from 2-4" in size, and a bazillion mosquito larvae
