PBB from Chad

Definitely enjoying this discussion. Seeing in person is always better than looking at pics but this is what my eyes see (from pics) - some Chad's don't look like other Chad's, some turkana don't look like other turkana infact I couldnt say which one is better looking.

So big question for me is why are turkana Soo much more expensive ?

That's the real question there. I would think it just goes down to supply and demand. Water bodies in Chad are much more accessible than Lake Turkana. So lower supply but higher / same demand as Chad = higher pricepoint. Doesn't help that any bichir from Turkana carries a mythical element to it which attracts buyers and allows sellers to tag them with a higher price.

Example would be a turkana sen v a regular WC sen. The price different is at least 4x.

My problem is they sell the turkana pbb for a high price but they look the same or very similar to chad pbb, so how do we know if we buying a legit turkana pbb that cost $8k usd and not a chad pbb that cost $800 usd?

That's where the trust in your local LFS comes in I guess... as consumers can only know as much as the importer tells us.

I got some pics of the reserved Turkana PBBs when I collected my NTT today. What do you guys reckon - how does this add to the discourse?

I’m not a Bichir Expert nor do I even have identifying Bichir eyes like half of you guys but.... from a unbiased point of view on these “Turkanas” or “Dabolas” they simply seem like nicer variation of these fish. Ex. Thicker bar Farranah Laps, people are claiming this to be dabolas but imo they are just laps with different patterns, (Think 2 spot Orinos, spider kels, and other pbass). Idk if the hype got to you guys BUT these “Turkanas PBB” look identical to my brothers Chad PBB. 6-10kea sheezh I’m about to order a bunch of 22”+ PBB from Toyin and call them Turkanas. They all look a certain way once they pass a certain size. Until further genetic or DNA testing is done I refuse to believe there are Dabolas or Turkanas more so a marketing scheme. Toyin himself can’t confirm these species exist and until I see evidence. Some people are just over paying for bichirs. I brought my flame suit and my poly costume preparing for the set back.

Tbh some of the marking looks like a nigerian lap, i kinda like how chad pbb marking better especially their vertical markings.

Btw nice pick up on the ntt:)

Idk to me certain differences become easy to see once pointed out or looking at them in person. Like the sp.s dabola , koloton, and koliba do look different. After kingel and other point out sp.tinkisso and faranah I can see those differences. I don't remember them with out looking back lol

But between TPBB and CPBB I don't see it. Like I said early when all of the TPBB look different from each other that only further confuses me

Different colors in variations not all fish are created equally some colors are based on genetics, diets, and surroundings. It’s just fish are born with different patterns and colors. There’s no physical difference between the two. I’ve seen chad with the same pattern and color as “Turkanas”.
