"""re post bump"""

heres one of my trickiest catches.
i casted, and my lure went over a branch,
then dangled above the water.
i laughed and said watch me catch one.
so i made it go in and out of the water a few times,
bam got one.
had to get a pic of it dangling there.

i'm glad you put your foot next to it for perspective. I would have thought that was a 4 footer

What do you use for gar?

I found a corner of our lake where gars hang out. Almost caught one yesterday on a Canadian night crawler on brass worm hook. Also noticed that they were going after flying insects that lands in the water, so I might I take out one of my fly lures later today or a Sabiki rig.

there hard to hook.
with a single hook your chances are slim.
use topwater lures with treble hooks.
cast and slowly just reel and you will see them chase it.
when you see them going after it,stop reelin then twitch, reel, stop, till he hits.
jd762 or something like that told me about braided rope trick.
put pieces on the hook so the gars teeth get caught up.
tried it yesterday and got that one above but i think i hooked him more then the rope did.
