Plant only filtration (why not popular in the hobby???)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont trim any of my plants but I have alot of room. My 2 top growers are arrow heads and pothos, with arrowheads being faster. Pothos vines out where as the arrowhead more so "bushes" then vines out. Pothos as they grow you can just wrap them around a stick and they will just go round and round.

One thing to keep in mind is that growth = filtration. So if it's growing a lot, there is filtration that needs to be done.

I understand that, I just don't want my sump to become overwhelmed by plants that I have to trim very often.

so a sump with arrow heads then?

arrowheads if you have the height. Mine are in a 4'x2' box, most are over 24" tall

pothos, ivy or any other vine are really the only other option to make a impact on nitrates and keep in a "compact" area

3 days after a fresh 65% water change nitrates are sitting at 3ppm in the 240 with the food hogs. Like to build them a 6x4x2 eventually as this cat is getting large. Would also give me more room for the pyscho plants. Next nitrate check is sunday.

75 gallon with just a 2" water top off havent done a water change of anysort in over a month or more with a 12" pleco, 6" syno decorus and a rapidly growing 5" bluegill 25ppm. Looks like Ill be changing the water some on that tank sunday.

Turtles tank, ya thats not gonna happen.
